Very noob to Blender, but this looks sweet. Seems like having to enable the caustics on both the casting object and the object being cast upon is a bit unintuitive. Like maybe they should be enabled by default, or have reception enabled by default while casting needs to be enabled manually. In any case I'll probably wait till the final version/official release just for the sake of not using the bandwidth, and since I hardly know the basics it's not something I'm trying to force myself to learn when I'm not expecting to actually use it. Still, excited to try it out in the future and just loving the showing here.

Now if only they could add real-time caustics for EEVEE, that'd be perfect!
@mohamadwaliyuddin1517
2 жыл бұрын
EEVEE is a rasterization engine, so light is not really particle, and hence there's no such thing as caustics. However, you can fake the reflection to make it look like caustic in EEVEE. People had been using this technic for ages. So if you want fake caustic, they're already here. Real caustic, impossible.
@FlamingFoxProd
2 жыл бұрын
@@mohamadwaliyuddin1517 Yeah, obviously they can't be real caustics. No shit it's a raster engine. That's why I said "real time caustics", meaning fake caustics built into Blender.
@TWGuardian
2 жыл бұрын
Same, though I'm personally hoping to soon see real time shader displacement in EEVEE. Not sure what low level shading engine Blender uses (though it is probably OpenGL) but it should be possible to easily implement this by displacing the vertices in the vertex shader pass prior to the object-to-world transformation.

With denoiser you wouldn't have to wait as much, specially if you are just going for the vibe instead of trying to replicate the results from real world physics. Gotta tweak a few parameters in the Render tab to get sharper results, though, and the sharper you make it, the slower it will take to produce good results. I'm not sure if it would be viable for animation though; and the time factor would probably also weight a lot against it.
@Smittel
2 жыл бұрын
@@TiagoTiagoT its true for larger scenes, yes, but when the focus of the render is a glass object of sorts or stuff like a pool or ocean waves near the shore, the difference becomes evident very quickly. sure you can fake it for stuff like pools or water in general, which is whats being done for real time applications, but when you have a still of a funky bottle and it doesn't produce caustics that can quickly take you out of it, it immediately becomes obvious that its a render. For the denoiser to be effective, you still need a good chunk of samples above what you need for the render normally and/or absurd amounts of transmission bounces else you get a weird looking mess that just looks like a low res texture with interpolation
@TiagoTiagoT
2 жыл бұрын
@@Smittel Light Paths tab -> Clamping -> Indirect Light: zero and just bellow, Caustics -> Filter Glossy: zero And maybe increase the glossy and transmissions bounces, and perhaps some adjustments; and there you go. Though, you probably will want to enable denoiser, and make all your glasses at least a tiny bit rough. It's not near real-time like what's coming in the next version, but leave it rendering for an hour or so, and you probably get adequate results if the rest of the shot is not too heavy to stretch the render time much further.
