I'm the same. Very much the same. I'm too much of a perfectionist though and I feel that really sets me back

For sure. I guess if I was better at modeling plants and trees (something I plan to work on), I would probably do more of those things myself. For now, hope we can both be chill with using whatever resources are available, at least for background/environment objects.

I can totally relate to this... I am unfortunately a perfectionist, and it really slows me down in my 3D work (even if it's just a hobby). Sometimes it keeps me from trying to do something because I figure ahead of time that I won't be able to do it well. Perfectionism is often a two edged sword!

Im in a school for game art and I can tell you when time comes where you have to model smth in a short amount of time, you will give up being an perfectionist. If ur not in school, find a project you work and give urself an amount of time to finish it and take it seriously, it will help

@@faryanblender8946 You know. You are right and I will have to do that for my next project. This one will have to be finished soon. Also talking through helps too which is why I'm toying with recording the process

I totally agree with all you said, at least for me, I enjoy getting involved in modelling and handpainting for at last see that all in my scene was mostly created by me

I`ve never downloaded any models to use in my work either. I think it is much more satisfying to model things yourself. It might mean it takes longer to finish the project but it`s not a race after all and you learn more by making them than just downloading them. Decals and text items I do use when needed . As for add ons I have downloaded a few - Blenderkit and EasyHDRI for texturing and lighting. RePrimitive to adjust objects even after the context menu has disappeared . Any others I use are the ones that come built in like Node Wrangler.

That all sounds great and makes sense. Thanks for your input on this.

The noodles in my entry were created by the Random Flow add-on "random cables". This created curves for the noodles.

My dear friend, just my 50 cents on this topic. Using addons does not mean, that you will get better results in term of creativity. Addons are helping us to reach a specific fast workflow and nothing else. I suggest to model e few models with Vanilla Blender (without addons) and the model the same models with addons like Boxcutter, Fluent and name it. Everybody will see that they went faster through the modeling process but the creativity process will not be improved that much. Why not? Because everybody must first think about how his model should looks, perhaps sketch it on paper or digitally and then start modeling. When I got the feeling of modeling without addons I will then appreciate the support of these addons helping me in work faster and precise. Of course, at the end of the process you have to edit your model and perhaps correct some addons anomalies. This is part of the game. The idea to download some free models and put them together on a scene, is not my favorite. Why not model all the object by myself and put them together? That's more fun and of course, my work! I do not talk about some decals which helps pointing to some eye catchers. Substance Painter and 3D Coat etc. is another discussion. Because texturing in Blender is still a pain in the ass, it is legitim that people are using other tools wich are better to use and achieves better results. As said, just my 55 cents 🤣🤣

I completely agree with everything you said. Of course I already use some add-ons such as loop tools, node wrangler, uv packmaster and others. I have not taken to using some like box cutter or hard ops mostly because I want to keep the channel, for now, a bit more tailored to relative beginners and those who don't want to spend extra money. However I can appreciate the good use of these add-ons and will probably eventually put them to use. Thank you for your excellent perspective in this.

From blender 4.2, The add-ons going to be call Extensions. Blender going to come with some of the core extensions but other need to be download from the blender page, blender going to be internet compatible for the this but just if the person allow it in the settings. No addons going to be able to connect to the internet if the setting is disable. Images as planes now is part of blender and node wrangler part of the addon going to be native to blender. Is a video in the Blender channel that ex playing better all the extension system.

Sounds reasonable. I don't upgrade very often so this won't affect me immediately. Thanks.

This seems like the 3D version of “Is Photography Art?” IANAL-TINLA: legally yes in most countries, ethically yes by general consensus - photos taken of what already exists, whether that’s an aspect of nature or manmade works, including artworks, can themselves be art because the photographer makes artistic choices on composition, lighting, etc that can make a photo more than just a visual copy of what already exists. By the same token, your renders of somebody else’s models are your art, not theirs (which doesn’t mean anybody should claim credit for modeling work they didn’t do, but that’s a different issue). I've no objection to challenges that require using one's own models, but IMHO such requirements must be stated explicitly -- any variation on “not your models, therefor not your art, you cheater” is profoundly flawed.

Yes, I agree for the most part with what you have said. We've all heard of cases where artists are sued for using parts of songs that are too similar to others, same goes for designs used in advertisement. Of course, if you photograph something, you own the photo. If you model what somebody else already modeled, you own your model. If you download someone's models and attempt to sell them, unless permission is given, that is not acceptable. If you claim that a work of art that includes downloaded models was completely created by you, that is also not acceptable. But yes, unless it is explicitly stated that you cannot use downloaded assets or anything you did not create, you should be able to do that. And that is why I posted this video because in the past, I have been against using downloaded assets including vegetation. I have loosened my restrictions which seems much more reasonable.
