It took me ages to figure out that a small part missing in a tutorial can almost make someone give up on using Blender. You mention briefly about applying the modifier without showing how it is done. Therefor I assumed that it's already applied when they are added. It's taken 3 hours to figure that out.... My verts didn't show up in the same way that yours do. Using Blender 3.1 For anyone wondering about this, add the modifiers, tab into object mode, go to each modifier, next to the camera icon select the dropdown arrow and then select apply. Tab back into edit mode and you should then see the same dots as in the tutorial.

Hi there, this part is not missing from the tutorial, it's just the video was made in an earlier version of blender and they've changed the UI for this since, one of my newer videos would have made this clear. I specifically talk about applying the modifiers at 7:05.

I have been struggling to understand how to create people and honestly about anything in blender. I’m an engineer and have a knowhow to make drawings and models, but I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me in blender since it’s less technical oriented. This 100% clicked with me and I feel I have an understanding of how to finally do it. My guy’s not the most beautiful, but I’m very happy with how he turned out!

It seems as if in the newest version of Blender this tutorial becomes somewhat outdated. Simply having the modifiers on the single vert don't generate the verts on the skin modifier to manipulate when you extrude. In 3.0 and forward, you have to at least apply the skin modifier before the verts will become available and that throws off the tutorial quite a bit.

_(Mysterious solution in the edits)_ The bevelling step works differently for me, it's bevelling the mouth inwards along the Y axis. I tired to redo the mouth in exact steps as in the video to see if extruding it in the edges mode made some odd difference, but now it doesn't bevel at all :( *EDIT 1:* Ok so I figured out the problem of bevel not working at all, for some reason some of the normals were flipped! However, I still can't figure out how to make it bevel outwards and not inwards along the Y axis. *EDIT 2:* Ok so I fixed it, somehow? I was about to post on Blender Stack Exchange, while writing the site suggested to me that I should look at an answered question of a similar nature (But involving the extrude tool). Turns out the problem for the person were overlapping vertices. So I tried to merge by distance to make sure it's not what's causing the problem. Funny thing is it said that it basically didn't merge any vertices. But I still gave it a go, to see if anything has changed and the bevel tool worked just like yours! I'm not sure what's going on but I'm happy it's solved :D

Thanks man! I didn't fix it yet but I'm a bit closer to do so that's because of your comment :D Mine doesn't bevel at all tho, merge by distance (in Editor mode(TAB): by selecting all face vertices -> M -> by distance) it issued another face vertices problem (due to overlapping I think?) but this is a good start :)

I had the same problem and I figured it out. When I extruded the mouth on the inside, I clicked E but didn't extrude, then clicked again, and then extrude. It creates sort of invisible vertices, and it's complicated to bevel after that. This was the problem, I had the same one on another project. Pay caution to the double extrudes guys! ☺
