You have a great style Steph, very captivating. Nothing like the english countryside on a summers day.

Great video Stef, good to see the Oxford covered market.....brings back memories of when I lived and worked in Oxford in my youth. It was 1964, I was 16 and worked in a photographic shop in Turl Street, just round the corner from the market, and at lunch time I would pop into the market and buy a rather large pork pie!

Contrails - temperature will have an effect, but doesn't it vary predictably with height like pressure? So it's likely to be similar in Aus as it is in GB. I'd guess the persistence of the contrails is more likely to be down to differences in relative humidity.
@randgaming659
6 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered that too (about the contrails). I believe its because there are not many aircraft flying past at cruising alt like there is in the UK.
@StefanDrury
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, that makes a lot of sense actually. Less aircraft passing over our cities in Aus, more of then actually landing at our major airports. As opposed to the UK where there’s more overflying aircraft. You could be on to something there...

Hi Stefan - just doing my CPL Met now ... the contrails you saw are just "Human Induced Clouds" - but to be more technical ... "The combination of water vapor in aircraft engine exhaust and the low ambient temperatures that exist at high altitudes allows the formation of the trails." :)
@StefanDrury
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Vaughan, I was wondering though why I see a lot more of them here in the UK as opposed to Australia. Is it purely a result of increased traffic? Or some atmospheric differences?
@TheVaughnClements
6 жыл бұрын
Oh I see - silly me! ... Yes it's purely density of traffic ... but one interesting thing I learned in ground-school was that the newer engines are much more efficient with cooler exhaust gases and can form contrails at lower altitudes than those of less efficient engines. So maybe a lot more jets that were built after 1990 are flying over England too? Also another little interesting "titbit" about contrails over England is that because these man-made Cirrus clouds are forming and expanding for up to 2 hours and reflecting the sun back out to the atmosphere ... some researches are saying on any given day it's blocking 1-10% of their sunshine - Doh!

wow, British summer was nice whilst it lasted, for 30sec, lol. I believe contrails are tiny ice crystals, up there air is saturated enough with cold moisture it can't take in any more cold air so turn it into ice crystals, i think.

"where did the sun go??" Gold and so typical of Blighty ;) Great vid, Stef. Reminded me of my time in England (a LONG time ago), two glorious years in London and three more crazy years in the Art College in Bournemouth. Unforgettable. Well, back then the food was pretty forgettable but that's another story.

Haha thanks mate, the British food scene has come a long way hey? I never used to remember it for good food, nowadays even an average pub serves very good meals. Makes a change from soggy fish and chips which was usually the norm!

Heh Stef, welcome home! What days are you planning on being at Farnborough? Hope you enjoy your trip. P.S. thanks for the heads up on the B787-9 we've booked the London to Perth to Melbourne flight in Premium Economy but as yet haven't managed to get our seats allocated as the Quantas site is not letting us select seats that leg which is disappointing but we've selected the other legs i.e. Melbourne to Sidney and the A380 from Sidney back to London. Quantas if you read this then be nice to understand why we can't select our seats and guarantee we can sit together on the flight, please message me.

Hey Zac, yeah it’s a confusing one hey? Always see more here in the UK compared to Aus. Another viewer said maybe because there’s more traffic at altitude over the country rather than in Aus. Still not 100% sure. And thanks re your comments about the channel. Thanks for being there from the start, it’s really humbling to know you’ve watched our channel grown from there. Here’s to lots more shared adventures, stef 👍

Contrails will just be down to traffic. A lot of traffic going over the Atlantic from Europe will transit over the UK and Ireland. Not as much transits across Australian cities...

So many good chances in the first half, I think trippiers first goal really got to their heads! I know it was great to get to the semi finals in the first place, that was the first one in about 20 years or something. Maybe next time haha
