I served a Manitoba parish that never had enough money in the plate, yet somehow we paid all our bills, and on time. In one case a complete stranger sent us a big check the day before our second payment to our building contractor was due. Laugh at the show, but when it happens in real life, you gotta believe.

Being Irish it can sound really bad and even insulting when some people put on Irish accents. Arthur Lowe is incredible and the accent is perfect. He must have had Irish family or Irish friends to be so familiar with the brogue.

I remember watching this years ago on PBS. I loved because I thought the actor playing Fr. Boyd was hot. lol

Oi can't hide from you the fact, that your saintly pastor, despite appearances to the contrary, is a terrible sinner ! Priceless.

Wonderful, I remember this first time round! And a little bit of trivia, Jim the head of the committee was also a regular on Last of The Summer wine, he played the landlord in one of the pubs!

@@jahempress26 Interesting that Arthur Lowe who played Fr Duddleswell was not Irish but English, putting on an Irish accent.

They are. Fr Duddleswell's is a soutane, with buttons, Fr Neil's is a cassock, with concealed fastenings. They wore trousers and jackets to go visiting, sometimes, but it was, and sometimes still is a matter of preference.
