I love that so many people are coming to this video because of 'Our Town'! I read the play and fell in love with it. In my homeschool drama group we are doing small plays directed by students directors. I'm directing the final act of 'Our Town', and I'm so excited! It's so sad, but has such a powerful message. Unfortunately that means I have to teach this to some of my cast; which is only unfortunate because I'm no music teacher! Haha.

The last verse is Mother's favorite. Daddy passed away five years ago - so swiftly time flies. Mother said she "hopes to meet again" (in heaven). I'm sure they will. Beautiful song! I'll share with Mother when I see her this week.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (February 26), I played this for Sunday School Assembly. I did so because our lesson for today came from Galatians 5: 18-26; 6:1-10. This is a good hymn to compliment this Scripture, regardless of denomination. This was sung as the Eulogy hymn at my father's funeral. This past Monday, February 20, 2017, my mother also went to Heaven. Now they are reunited.

Thanks for posting this video. I, too, love this and many old hymns and songs, and lament that young people today do not learn, sing and appreciate them. I like to play this tune on the organ as incidental music during services, or before, during which I often hear people singing or humming along, with feeling.

In the 18th. century John Fawcett, who wrote these words was Baptist minister in a village a few miles away from where I live. Offered a much bigger church, the love that his congregation had for him persuaded him to stay where he was, and he wrote "Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love "

amen to that ---- there's NOTHING like the old hymns! and thank God for people sharing them on-line, since most churches seem to think they should be forsaken in favor of "modern praise music" for the young folk... but what's wrong with young people learning these great old hymns of the faith? so sing them, teach them --- and PLEASE tell your church leaders and music departments that people LOVE THE OLD HYMNS ! God bless you all. .

Psalms 133:1 (A Song of degrees of David.) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

1. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. 2. Before our Father's throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares. 3. We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear, and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear. 4. When we are called to part, it gives us inward pain; but we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again. 5. This glorious hope revives our courage by the way; while each in expectation lives and waits to see the day. 6. From sorrow, toil, and pain, and sin, we shall be free; and perfect love and friendship reign through all eternity.
