Hey Diana, great idea for a video doing all blind buys and the needle drops are key. You seem to have great luck with these. Super pickup with Afronauts. Good music, expensive record, blind buy, at a cheap price? Vinyl Unicorn! I am gonna check more of these out, especially the Avante Garde Posy Punk last one. Great vid!

Hey Diana! I hope you're also enjoying the Brückentag :) You nailed it with my taste in music. Funny how you can predict someone taste in music. I bought Shaolin Afronauts when it was released. At that time Freestyle Records was one of the few labels that released their music on vinyl. Great find! Hahah, you buy your records at the dog food store, didn't know that existed. All the best. /Paul

Hey Hey Paul! No Brückentag for me :( But that's okay, May this year is full of public holidays (four days! Such a luxury!) and I will be on holiday very soon :) Ha, I could have bet that you know Shaolin Afronauts :) it just screams "Paul!" to me :D The dog food store is indeed one of the most peculiar stores I ever came across. They sell (horrible kitsch) accessories and home decor and raw BARF dog food (so the place just smells awful) - I would have never put a feet into that place if it weren't for the records of the husband of the shop owner, haha. Hope you have a lovely day. Much love, Diana

On balance I think I prefer the blind buy pre Internet days. Although I recall buying loads of blue notes, ecm's, krautrock, spiritual jazz, musique concrete, etc (usual hipster vinyls, that showed potential) on a Saturday and taking most back for trade the next Saturday. Expensive mistakes, but the never knowing if you had a keeper buzz was worth it. ps The Shaolin sounds dubious, but a great cover. So many sellers never check the values. The female vocalist, Mira, is wonderful, the way she shapes and sings the words is exceptional! Great price as well.

Hey Mike! Yeah, I guess this was even more fun back then. In general, I wish I would have been able to experience this... and seeing concerts when the albums came out and not decades later, haha. Much love, Diana

Blind buys are fun ! I did one not to long ago on my channel. I took a set amount of cash to the metal / punk bins and grabbed some blinds buys. Really fun!! Always enjoy your videos. Talk later Dustin

Hey Diana, Glad to finally catch up with you. What a lovely day it looked to be there! What luck on these blind buys. All sounded interesting. What a steal on the Afronauts! I'm only familiar with Material. I have something of theirs on cassette and remember it being good. The last one was quite a trip. Have had my share of blind buys...50/50 overall, though one of the earliest that come to mind is your fellow German Adelbert Von Deyen. I found his 'Nordborg' record around 1995 or so, and loved it. Thanks for sharing these. Great seeing you as always. Peace n love. -Carm

Hey Carm! Thank you :) I was a bit disappointed that I made the background music so loud and all the beautiful bird chirping couldn't be heard. I am intrigued by Nordborg, never heard of it! Sounds interesting. Much love, Diana

Hi Diana, great episode... let's play! well that first album is early 70s German via late 70s French post-rock. Big Winner!! Your second one could be a grower, I probably wouldn't play it all the time tho. But for the money it's a win. Third one is very interesting looking and sounding, maybe a little too linear/groove based. I've never heard of the Shaolin Afronauts being from Oz, interesting! Psych for the Movements, has potential. The 5th record (Steve) sounds like a big win for you! Oh, i guess i got that wrong😫. Next one is hard... ah, no wave. Mira... prog-glam? Polish Jefferson Airplane? Milk from Cheltenham is almost UK no-wave/post-punk - i think I like it! You did pretty well overall, especially on the condition for the price! Fun video, Diana :) have a great week and hope there's more sun and outdoors for you! Cheers- Dean

I wish all of my blind buys were freeform jazz, psychedelic, etc. Love the music, just hard to believe all of your blind buys are all pretty much the exact same two or three genres. Luck is on your side.
@diggininthecr8

Well, first of all this is of course a small selection of blind buys :) second, I have some different genres in here (Singer Songwriter, No Wave, Blues Rock and Experimental/Avantgarde/Electronic stuff), so it's not like it's just the usual stuff I pick up ;) (and Milk Of Cheltenham definitively brought me out of my comfort zone). But it's not like I accidentally pick up some Death Metal or cheesy Pop, haha. Usually I can guess from the cover, instruments, cast and time it was recorded if it appeals to me or not. I never had a really horrible blind buy yet.

Arc Iris was a blind buy for me as well, fair bit of Joanna Newsome in her delivery. If I’d been in your shoes I think I would have bought the same stuff. Anything going cheap on Superior Viaduct is worth the gamble.

Hey there! I haven't done a room tour, but the room is really small so there is not much to see. The turntable shelf you see in the video plus a 4x4 Kallax shelf, and opposite to the turntable there is another 4x2 Kallax shelf. Nothing special. Yes, I love the warm sound the Marantz produces. The amp is still going strong despite being 40 years old :)

Going back all the way into the 1970's until the late 1990's nearly all my music purchases were 'blind buys' since the radio here never played any of the music i've into since that time. My first Terry Riley, Klaus Schulze albums Eno, Harold Budd, my first ECM album, etc. all came from either just seeing them in the physical stores or (mostly) by reading about the artists in music papers and magazines, hearing the music described but never actually hearing any samples of it before the purchase. I do them more rarely since then but it's fun when I do now buy something without having heard even an excerpt. That first album is specifically something I certainly would have loved when I first started 'branching out' back in the late 1970's. 'Flight Of The Ancients' would certainly get my attention as well! The album cover looks like something from the 1960's! I have really come to appreciate Joseph Jarman, especially in recent years so that Steve Colson looks quite nice. I had the original vinyl edition of 'Memory Serves' which had a different cover back in the day. That was also a blind buy for me but I discovered I forgot to bring it with me when I moved. To be honest, wasn't really my kind of thing anyway as I was just kind of losing interest in rock-oriented music at that point, but would have still liked to keep it since it was in excellent condition. I love seeing all this eclectic stuff.... Once again, nice seeing you & another video Diana-I hope you have a great week!

Hey Gary, thanks for stoppin by! Yes, I guess this was real fun back then - it must have been amazing to discover all that music by yourself. I appreciate that today we have access to almost everything in an instant, but I also like the thrill of discovering something without reading about it or listening to it beforehand. Joseph Jarman is great - I will be seeing Art Ensemble Of Chicago live in concert in June, and I am so so excited about it. Would have loved to see the full ensemble live back then, but well, I was definitely born too late :) Have a great weekend! Much love, Diana

Wonderful. Although i've bought Art Ensemble Of Chicago and a side project or two by Jarman for many years in the past it was really just in the last couple of years after seeing an interview and a TV concert by him that I really began to appreciate him as a Sax/Flute player and really sat down and listened to his actual playing style, which I found that I 'get' and appreciate much more now. I hope you do a concert review of the gig, i'm not sure exactly who's playing in the band right now since the passing of several of the original members there have been different musicians in and out of the group. I know Jarman himself left the group for a number of years, so I hope he's back with the group for your concert. Have a great weekend!
