As a father of a 1 year old son.. and now having 10 full months sober (1st time in my life and I’m 30) I’ve decided to stay away from music I listened to in active addiction… today I confronted those demons finishing with this song. It’s crazy, I used to cry In the bathroom screaming this song in the shower … today it holds new weight. I love life man & I’m so blessed.. we ALL ARE. Love y’all ❤️

@@MrMudEagle .....and when you jump to conclusions about one's age.....you make comments like yours :) Bud I was 29 in 93, I was very much there, this IS my generation. The fact of the matter is Blind Melon nowhere near met their potential nor the cultural impact when compared to any number of bands of the day. Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden never mind the obvious Nirvana were way more significant and made 10 times the cultural impact that Blind Melon ever did. The terms "underrated" and "iconic" are so misused now that it's gotten ridiculous. The point I'm making is to declare Shannon Hoon as "The most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation" is simply wildly inaccurate when you compare him to Eddie Vedder, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, or Chris Cornell or Cobain. Those band's and those voices both literally and figuratively made way more of a significant cultural impact to our generation than Blind Melon or Hoon ever did. I would strongly suggest history backs that up. At the end of the day Blind Melon and Hoon while a great band and a solid vocalist was in no way ..the most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation. Not sure how the tone of this debate comes off so I just want you to know I'm not trying to be a dick in anyway, I always enjoy a good debate when it comes to music so, cheers bud.

After listening to Blind Melon over the last couple of days I can honestly say Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon deserve to be talked about just as much as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all of the other big names. My dad was in a band called Sunchild. He hung out with Shannon back when Blind Melon were starting out. He said Shannon had a little bag around his neck. My dad asked what it was and he said it was his dog tags. My dad asked why they were in a bag and not on a chain assuming he meant military tags. He pulls it out and it's his dog's name tag. The vet killed his dog and Shannon threw a brick through the office window.

Change (Shannon Hoon) i don't feel the sun's comin' out today It's stayin’ in, it's gonna find another way - yeah As i sit here in this misery, you know i don't think i'll ever, no, Lord, See the sun from here, not from here And, oh, as i fade away - hmmm Some people will say - yeah They’ll look at me, and they'll say: "Hey look at him; i'll never live that way” But that's ok; they're just afraid to change - oooh And when you feel life ain't worth livin’ - aaaha You've got to step back and take a look away Then you look up way to the sky now - yeah And when your deepest thoughts are broken - yeah You gotta keep dreamin’ boy When you stop, it's time to die And i don't wanna die And as we all play parts of tomorrow, Lord knows Some ways we'll work and other ways we’ll play - yeah But i know we can't all stay here forever So, i wanna write my words on the face of today But then they'll paint it And, oh, as i fade away - hmmm They'll all look at me and say Yeah, they’ll look at me and they'll say: "Hey look at him and where he is these days" When life is hard, you have to change When life is hard, you have to change - hmmm

When life is hard you have to change. When i play this song on guitar and sing the lyrics i now understand this song's meaning from a new perspective.

God, this version of the song made me choke up so hard. I wish Shannon was still here to bless us with more of his music. Also, super glad that Blind Melon is making new tunes again! One of my top fave bands of all time.

Did you know him personally? Seems like such a pure spirit. Love the "hi mom" at the end. Who does that??

This is a song called Change I don't feel the sun's coming out today It's staying in now, it's gonna find another way yeah As I sit here in this misery I don't Think I'll ever no See the sun from here And oh as I fade away Some people will say, yeah They'll all look at me and they'll say "Hey, look at him" I'll never live that way And that's ok Just afraid to change When you feel life ain't worth living You've got to stand up, and Take a look around, look up way to the sky, hell yeah And when your deepest thoughts are broken Keep on dreamin' boy, when you stop dreamin' it's time to die And I don't want to die And as we all play parts of tomorrow Some ways we'll work, and other ways we'll play, yeah But I know we can't all stay here forever So I'm gonna write my words on the face of today And then they'll paint it Give me a fantasy, you gotta play me a tune One that can make us all happy Give me the days to take us down from these blues Sing a song, baby play a guitar Baby make it snappy yeah You are the one who can make us all happy Why do it baby, no you bring out the tears Don't be so sad, if you were in my new head Right now, known you for all of these years And oh as I fade away They'll all look at me and say Yeah they'll look at me and say "Hey look at him, and where he is these days?" When life is hard you have to change When life is hard you have to change Mmm
