Rick, I just found this video in 2021 and I was fascinated with your results. I have played a set of 845 knockoffs that I built many years ago. My brother had a set of 845s he was playing and we met at the driving range. We swapped clubs back and forth and really couldn't tell which was which after 20min of hitting. I was a 7-8 handicap player and he was a scratch golfer at the time. Since the look was identical from the hitting view, the shafts were stiff flex (mine were True Temper Dynamic Gold), we determined our thoughts in our minds about the club we were hitting made all the difference. Now I have to hit some Mizuno forged irons...

I first got into golf about 9 years ago. Just for clarity of my point I was building a swing at the time. I was using a new starter set of Walter Hagen clubs. I would go to Golfsmith in Orlando a lot and just try equipment. I gravitated to Callaway X-22 & X-24 irons instantly because of how they felt at contact. The next thing that stood out was how good Mizuno felt at impact too. Every year I like trying the new equipment and always found Mizuno as a great feeling iron. I play Titleist irons right now, but would not hesitate to own a set of Mizuno irons.

After hitting the mizuno irons, that was the first thing i said about them, how awesome they felt! Been using them since and out of all the irons i have ever hit these have been my favorite by a mile. I've had taylor made irons, titleist ap2 irons and titleist ap3 irons and none of those were close at least as far as feel goes. I bought a custom fit set of Mizuno Hot Metals, 6 to LW, in spring of 17. I used them for 2 years. They were by far the softest, most forgiving irons I ever hit. As a legally blind golfer, feel has even more importance that to a fully sighted golfer. This spring, I got a set of Warrior Tomahawk Pro Edge Irons and wedges to try, and later to keep free from Warrior. (This company's integrity is through the roof.)There is no comparison. Much as I loved my Hot Metals, the Pro Edge clubs are much more forgiving and softer with a larger sweet spot. I am now back to hitting a 4 iron with confidence. I have since purchased the driver, 4 wood and 4 hybrid from Warrior. All have improved my game markedly. I would like to see some reviews of these clubs

I’ve played Mizuno irons for years and have always felt they were the best feeling irons in the market. Then PXG came out and living in Phoenix decided to go to a fitting session. I have to say that PXG for me edges out Mizuno in feel. Interesting test and results, although what golfers interpret as "feel" is actually the harmonic resonance of the metal of the club striking the ball so it is sound rather than feel. If you were to repeat the test with the golfers wearing ear defenders, they would struggle to differentiate between any of the clubs. So Mizuno's tag line should really be, "Nothing sounds like a Mizuno"

@@shiifty1622 I totally agree that some golfers can detect a difference, but the difference in harmonic resonance between Irons when they hit a ball is predominantly detected through hearing the sound. If you try hitting any Iron whilst wearing ear defenders you won't detect any difference in "feel" because you won't be picking up the sound waves.

Faces on all of them are worn to the metal on the 6 to wedge. Rick, I think you will find my reply interesting. Since I have been playing for a long time & building clubs, I have all kinds of opinions. Now that True Temper is coming out with the sensicore again, know as VSS. It will be difficult to tell. The hottest selling club was the Mizuno T-zoid Pro 2 forged with sensicore. The blade was large with a large sweet spot, when you hit it well with the sensicore shaft you could hardly feel the ball. True temper is now expanding the VSS into the Dynamic Gold 105. It is offered in P790 & P760 as standard option. It went out of style because tour pros did not get any feedback on mishits. S-400, X-100 was shaft of choice. Anybody who wants to reduce shock to hands & wrists should play VSS. It can really reduce injury to players who hit a lot of balls, especially hard range balls. I could write a chapter on this subject- next time. Good subject, I like some of the new content seems like you are being a little more honest in your middle age, LOL.

Recently went for my 1st fitting ever. 8 Handicap and I think my order would be Mizuno MP20, TaylorMade P790, Titleist AP's on feel. Unfortunately, I am a lefty in the middle of South Dakota, USA and it is about impossible to find a place that can do a fitting here with a variety of lefty clubs. Those were the only 3 options I had. I ended up choosing the Mizuno MP20 with KBS Tour S 120 shafts and stock grips (side note my old irons were Titleist 762's from 18 years ago so probably a much needed upgrade). Mizuno seemed to be the most consistent out of all of them that I tried and you are always looking for accuracy in irons not distance.

The only thing they could differentiate was the color of the star, shape of the head and feel of the club. What color was which club? Blue tends to be a very common favorite color. Red could be associated with performance. The people could relate to each color differently. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for putting out great content. Feel is very subjective, I own a set of Mizuno MP 14’s and a set of MP 32’s and for me it’s Titleist 690 that’s the best feeling irons, although with age I’m playing the AP 3 set , great test !!!

Nice review. What handicap was each golfer? Were they playing similar clubs fro each manufacturer. Not everybody is Brookes Koepka. I play Mizuno and I love everything about them looks, feel, sound. Etc. Next time I’ll do a bit more testing within the Mizuno range looking at more options. They simply make the best irons IMHO.

I still hit my Mizuno Mx 23 irons and have had them a long time. Still feel wonderful to me.

Mx-17 here. I'm the weakest link in the system for sure! When I hit them well it's smooth as silk.

I’m still playing 15 year old Mizuno MP-67 irons and don’t plan on getting rid of them anytime soon. Just put in brand new Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 irons in them.

I used the MP Grads back in college and went up to the MP29s. I have a set still. I must say that it REALLY sucks when I mishit it, to a point of bleeding through my glove but, BUT, when it hits on the sweet spot, there’s nothing more heavenly. The feedback is legendary I must say. Insuspect that’s why Faldo used these, and Tiger used the smaller MP14s.

Mizuno weren’t even on my list when I went to by my last set of irons but after hitting them alongside a few other brands (that were on the list) the mizuno felt better and performed better for me. That was 6 years ago and haven’t thought about changing since.

You should not have chosen the HMB .. I would have like to have seen just the MP-20. But this was a great test Rick .. I loved it!

I once found a number of old Mizuno blades in a second hand store. As they do not amount to a total set, I chose to continue using my oversize Ben Sayer irons, until 2 days ago. I noticed that my swing was, as I was hitting the balls harder and harder, getting out of balance and uncontrollable. I took the Mizuno's out, and I have never hit a club this pure. I do not have enough experience with other clubs necessarily, but I know for sure that I prefer these tiny little blades over any cavity-club I have ever touched...

Playing the jpx900 forged and they feel like butter when you hit that sweet spot. And feel pretty good when you don't.

Interesting video, feel is a very subjective thing. I did a full bag fitting 2 years ago with the view that I would be walking out with mizuno irons. After hitting 718AP2, P790 and a callaway model, all with KBS Tour shafts (which was by far the best shaft for me) and the AP2s and P790 were neck and neck. Then my fitter handed me a Mizuno MP25 to hit. It looked great, but I just hated how it felt on impact. It was too soft and buttery with no real feedback. 5 shots were all over the place. I did want to try a JPX900 Forged but Mizuno Australia weren’t forthcoming to my fitter with them, despite his repeated requests. I took the AP2 back and proceeded to stripe 5 shots down the middle within a few metres of each other. No surprise I’m a very happy AP2 owner. They have been the best irons I’ve ever owned - consistent, and look and feel amazing, and come upgrade time I’ll be trying titleist first up

I think that statement was very valid 20 + years ago. Mizuno we’re one of the few makers making forged irons. These days many makers are forged, so, hmm In addition the softest irons I’ve ever hit are the maxfli revolution (Australian blade). They were ridiculously soft that bag chatter destroyed them

I love the idea of this test but I have two concerns. 1) A "feel" test should be blades only. 2) They most certainly can tell which club they are hitting unless it is debadged in some way. Maybe silver tape, etc.

I have to say it again!!! AWESOME VIDEO R.S.!!! I already love the content on this channel but this Awesome test puts it even further in front of the competition! (I was kinda sad to see the Cobra finish so far back, because I really liked the look of them!)

Rick Totally agree ie been lucky to complete a similar test including Vega clubs as well. Thus, still rocking my Mp 5s ie tried 18s but agreed with rep no gain - yet to try the 20s!!! The only other club I would love to compare Mizuno s to are Miuras ie Erik A L was so lucky and was so jealous of his experience 😯😯😯😯🙂🙂🙂🙂
