This is the wine that made me fall in love with this strange but beautiful habit : collecting 75c bottles of fermented juice . But , unfortunately, there are a lot of brunellos that - just like Bordeaux - don’t live to their name . Too much producers and hype usually cause that type of problem . Still , a really good Brunello can make one think about life and elevate . I agree with you that sometimes a rosso can be as good as a main Brunello ! The trick thing is to find a good bottle among the crowd ! Cheers !

I must say, I like Brunello. My last tested Brunellos were Ciacci Piccolomini d´Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso 2015 from magnum bottle and Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino 2012. Both superb. Nice review.

Montalcino wines are still my favorite reds, they are generally smoother comoared to other sangioveses. Brunello for the weekend. Rosso die Montalcinos are our go to table wines, they generally pair so well with lots of different food. The Ciacci Rossos I can pick up in Montalcino for 13.5€, absolute bargain!

A very kind and appreciative client in the wine trade gave me a few bottles of 2004 Castello Banfi Poggio all'Oro Riserva a few years ago. Absolutely fantastic. Alas when I'm paying the budget is usually more at the Rosso level but some producers are producing fantastic Rossos. I know you're not supposed to say baby brunello but...

Brunello di montalcino Biondi Santi 2015 here is $999.00 for the bottle before taxes. The cheapest Brunello here is $60 before taxes. Love Italian Wine but these are very, very pricey here. Great tasting! Thank You.The funny thing is when I was in Italy in May the high end wine was more there because of the Euro, the exchange for us is .50 cents on the dollar!

I was so glad that bottle didn't break, it gave me a big of a fright!🤣Joking aside, Brunello is a seriously great wine, but unfortunately seriously hard on most of our wallets. Especially in distant foreign export markets where you often pay double or more for one. I had a lovely 2015 Brunello while on holiday in Germany with my family, but I usually drink CC or CCR when I want Sangiovese. Like you I though wine no. 5 was the Riserva, that shows how accurate and unbiased blind tasting can be.

Good evening Brunello and Rosso lover !!!!!! If you are in search for a really good quality price winery check out for La Gerla a tiny family estate, the Rosso is in the top ten almost every year in his category and the Brunello's are also top and for the prices? I just saw on the web the Brunello 2013 $ 50 the 2016 $ 55, not bad at all, and the Rosso around $ 20, but this are Italian prices.

BDM is a common weekend affair for me, and we've been blessed with 13, 15, 16 vintages.. North and South expression is quite different too, and more producers are doing single crus.. The new Casanova di Neri's Giovanni Neri is quite stellar, the Rosso is great but the BDM is quite silly priced, I'd probably go Poggio di Sotto for that price.. 15/16 Talenti was something of great QPR that help me make it through Covid lockdown

Brunello is great but I tend to stick to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano . When I visited Montepulciano, I talk to a guy working at a winer there about Brunello. He said basically Banfi was responsible for the Brunello crazy and it doesn’t not matter if a wine has 100% of a single variety, Sangiovese in this case. I’m glad no one talks about Vino Nobile di Montepulciano which allows me to get affordable bottles.

Loved the video, thanks! I was wondering: why isn't the docg label present on the riserva? Shouldn't all Brunello's have this label? If so, is absence of the label a red flag? Thanks in advance, keep on making these great videos and cheers!

Personally i like the traditional style of brunello, some of my favourite wines. The modern style which are over oaked spoils the wine for me. I think riservas are a bad buy usually, way more money with minimal if any gain. Good vintages of brunello from some of the mid priced producers you can get some outstanding wines for the same price youd pay for pretty poor Burgundy village wine. Stocking up on 2016 brunellos is a good move imo.

I like Brunello as much and not more than other Tuscan wines. To me they are all part of the same family. Unfortunately, I kind of get where your French friend is coming from. The region has been on trend for a couple of decades and the prices reflect that. I'm lucky enough to have a few classics in the cellar, including an epic magnum, which I didn't pay through the nose for. I really like the stuff but the price is an issue now. You pay for the region and you can get wine, even other Tuscan wine, which is just as interesting for far less.

I wouldn’t ever say Bordeaux, Burgundy, or Montalcino are “overrated” because obviously they all produce some of the finest wines in the world and I absolutely love those wines whenever I can afford them. But definitely those are not the first regions that come to mind when I think of value or bang for buck.

Brunello has always been a bit of a head scratcher for me. But I’m a bit of an outsider as generally- not universally- my favorite Sangiovese based wines have been vino nobile di montepulciano. Though I tend to prefer the versions that aren’t 100% Sangiovese
