Definitely this. Personally I think Boxcar is one of my favorite albums of all time. This album is the first work after Boxcar so the influence is all over it. It's darker and more serious. I always wondered why this album was self-titled, but I think it's when they really found their sound. Such a good album.

Blink is the only band that I know of that has three (some say 4) albums that could all be ranked number 1 of their catalog. Of course this has its own problems as well, because it means its REALLY difficult to match the level of quality with future releases. Its hard to look at a title completely objectively when a band has a run of three 10/10 or 9/10 albums. in my opinion this is why Modern Blink gets so much hate from fans now neighborhoods onwards. IMO they're frankly just a great band, and each are fantastic songwriters, even on their first (studio) album Chesire Cat you can already hear how good they are. Chesire is my lowest rated album, at a 7/10. Which is good and above average, but whats above average when compared to perfection?

Since you asked, their influences were Bad Astronaut, Fugazi, and The Cure on this album. They wanted to experiment with a different sound while staying punk, so the resulting album was this. As for what the lady in that interlude is talking about, it's a letter Mark Hoppus' grandmother sent his grandfather during WWII. They got a woman named Joanne to read it for the album and the result is that very eerie build into Stockholm Syndrome.

Love these blink vids man. I enjoy listening to what you have to say about these songs. I would love to see more. I think you should also listen to the song "Not Now" which was planned to be on this album but was cut because blink felt that it sounded too much like "Asthenia". The song+video was released for the Greatest Hits record and it basically marks the end of the Enema/TOYPAJ/Untitled trilogy. After that, then I think it would be a good idea to check out +44 and We Don't Need To Whisper which were released after blink broke up the first time.
