Brimstone has a 4-turn cooldown. Before the nerf, it was possible to speed tune this so that Blizaar always attempted to place Brimstone just after the big nuke. This apparently resulted in 3-4 minute runs. However, that speed tune requires waking up the boss, which now requires 8 hits -- and there's no way for Blizaar to reliably land 8 hits in 2 turns.
So this is not speed tuned. Blizaar will sometimes try to place Brimstone while the boss is awake (and fail) and will sometimes try to place Brimstone when the boss is asleep (which can succeed). However, what I discovered is that whenever Blizaar tried to place Brimstone immediately after the big nuke, the boss would sleep through both turns of the smite and take no damage. Only when Blizaar tried to place Brimstone on the second turn after the big nuke was there any damage.
So I changed Blizaar's masteries to include Giant Slayer. That (sometimes) places extra hits. So, if Blizaar tries to place the Brimstone on the first turn after the big nuke and if Giant Slayer procs at least two extra hits across three turns, then the boss wakes up at the end of Blizaar's second turn and takes damage. And, if Blizaar tries to place Brimstone on the second turn after the big nuke, then the boss always wakes up and takes damage. The Giant Slayer hits themselves also do a bit of damage, but it's not much.
I believe that this sped up the runs considerably. Some runs are better than others, but ~6 minutes isn't uncommon, whereas I was seeing 11 minute runs before. It's still not great for turn attack tournaments, because the runs are long enough that you don't get that many points per run.
