A collection of views and shots taken from the front porch during the blizzard that hit Washington, D.C. on January 22-23, 2016. It was - unfortunately - too frigidly cold to venture from the house into the storm as I would have liked to have done. Also, protecting the cameras was problematic - including the Rode Deadcat Wind Muffs for the mics.
There were significant periods when sustained winds held at 30mph with much stronger intermittent gusts.
Snow accumulations during the blizzard were deceiving due to the blowing snow around cars and shifting snowdrifts. When everything leveled out after the storm the average depth of the snowfall in areas away from structures, trees, cars, fences or other solid obstructions, etc. was 30-inches - the school playground across the street was that deep overall. In the end the 30-inches evenly covered the street - and the front of the Nissan Versa. The snow was the light fluffy powder kind - perfect for skiing atop.
