I worked as an Assistant Manager in a couple different stores, and it was always like corporate had no idea what actually went on in the stores with real customers. We would get paperwork or a so-called training video, watch it, and look at each other saying They think this is going to work in the stores? We did it anyway, as it was our job and the DM had to visit every few weeks. But even he would agree on some things saying once you go above a certain point in corporate, you have no idea what really goes on in the stores yet you are making decisions and policies for those stores. Just another reason why it failed.

@@DiamondVisionLEDThat is every major corporation. I worked in accounting. Not in operations but I have worked with plenty of other medium and large corporations. A lot of bittersweet nostalgia here. So many fond memories of growing up with Blockbuster weekends with my family. My sister and I were even allowed to pick out a video game most times. We so looked forward to it. There really isn't anything like it in modern society/culture. I feel it was a defining feature of my generation's (millennial) youth. Every once in a while, I'll get a random whiff of something plastic-y, and I'm instantly transported back to the Blockbuster store, which always smelled like the plastic movie cases. While it definitely brings back happy memories, it also hurts a little bit, to know that it's an era past, something I can never go back to. Time is strange...

People don't remember how things used to be. I applied at Blockbuster back in 1995? I'm a guy and I had near waist-length long hair which took years to grow out. It was well kept. The interviewer asked me if I would be willing to cut my hair to work there. I was a bit blindsided with the request and had to ponder it before replying with either "I don't know" or a straight "No". Needless to say I never received a call back. Silly too because I saw a male employee with long hair at a more centrally located downtown location around that same time frame. I then got a job at a grocery store and guess what? They made me put my hair back and tuck it underneath the back of my dress shirt. I no longer have long hair, but I'm glad times have changed in that regard.
