The single barrel reverse nozzle is a diabolical beast of a sword and a root slayer. Even the clumps of frightened roots cut free need to cling to the nozzle as they ultimately exit to daylight and get tossed to the curb like parasitic trash, and into their slow death coffin bin of demise. The Penetrator rules again, packs up, and we know, and He knows, that his work is never done. We are all fortunate to witness The Penetrator bring justice to these root evil-doers.

Most storm water drain cleans are from the street end as it’s easier to get to the entry point. If there is a break in the pipe with tree root entry they grow up towards the house as that is the way the water flows down the pipe. With sewer where I live. I find your going down the pipe to the blockage more often due to access.

Nice video. Would be nice to see the progress/how far in you get with the hose. Do you think you could mark the hose to make it easier to spot if the hose gets in further or not? I mean a small splash of different colored ratel can paint on the hose with some space between markings would be great. Then it would be easier to see if the hose go in or out. Good content. Keep up the good work.

the hose has printed numbers on it that are too small for us to see, but he can tell how far it goes in. As I recall the marks are every meter. He does have some red tape at the first meter, so he knows when to shut the water off.

"Roots Galore !" Congratulations ! I really enjoyed your success on that one. [QUESTION] Hello Gavin, I am curious to know how the root cutting nozzle works: does that nozzle have a small water-out-orifice whereby very highly pressurised water works like a cutting knife on roots, at the same time not powerful enough to cut the pipe, just the roots? Or is it your "magical green-snake wrist curling/twirling/pushing/pulling" technique that cuts the roots? Or both working together? Thank you very much. Cheers, Diego.
@rupe53
2 жыл бұрын
these high pressure jetters have about 4-5000 psi with 4-5 gallons per minute flow. That's enough to cut through any organic matter. It generally won't harm the pipe because it's a glancing blow, not a direct aim. OTOH, once the roots are soaked, they float around so get hit by the water stream and are broken up.
@diegovd7215
2 жыл бұрын
@@rupe53 Thank you very much for the explanation !
@Bobal27
2 жыл бұрын
@@diegovd7215 The reason that nozzle is being called “root-cutter” is that it only has one hole (out the back), propelling it forward and blasting anything behind it. The other nozzles (aside from the double barrel) have one stream out the front, to dig forward through tough muddy clumps), and three streams out the back to push it forward (and blast backwards, but at 1/4th of the pressure). His technique helps aim the backwards stream, turning it around to make sure the jet is focused on all roots at their points in the twist. It also just kills time and makes it seem like he’s working hard, when really it’s more about the time the water needs to cut through it.
@penetratorblockeddrains

Common mate I work hard 😂
@Bobal27
2 жыл бұрын
@@penetratorblockeddrains Yeah, you do work hard. Without the water, however, the efforts you put forth on hose position would accomplish next to nothing. I’m not knocking you, or your work, I’m simply pointing out that the water enables your efforts to affect a change. I know you work hard, which is why I was shocked the other day when you left rocky chunks in a customer’s pipe. You’d usually not only fix the issue, but clean it out while you’re in there. Ranting aside, thank you for not only providing an invaluable service locally, but also entertaining globally. Have a great week :)

Do any of the nozzles get sharpened like a knife to cut roots? Seems like a nozzle with a sharp or serrated edge would be the ultimate root cutter. The blade could be oriented to not damage to pipe but still cut aggressively while spinning.

For an old guy I'm starting to learn how this is done. You blow the dirt from the roots then hydrojet the roots. Not a bad job if you can just do storm drains. But, I'm betting your real money is in fat clogged drains or butt wipes. That single barrel and double barrel jetter acts like it is eager to sound like a buzzsaw through those roots.

Tough one for sure. On a serious note, you seem to be losing either pressure or flow rate. Even the lance gun sounds weird now. I believe if I were you I would have it checked out. All nozzles with spinning internals seem to be "off" a bit. Maybe debris in the unloader or something. The single barrel and lance gun share the same intervals, and both sound off to me, and the single barrel used to send a jet stream across the road on stormwater pipes, but no longer does. I was having very similar issues, and would up being a bad pump. That was a sad day

I guess this is sort of the same thing as people planting oak trees near house/pavement. WHY do people think that palm trees are a great idea near pipes? Bamboo is probably just as bad. Lots of teeny tiny roots that like being in clumpy mats. (It's not even really good wood for anything other than wood turning) For those who don't know, oak trees suck the water out of the ground, and lift concrete because their roots like to be too close to the surface.
