Most important was the original to instill empathy for Jason and his mother Part 3 was iconic for debuting his first hockey mask (and the fact that they’ve carried over most if not all prior movies’ damage to the next movies is something that cannot be understated, especially since each movie has a slightly different mask) Part 6, at least the very end of it, was important to establishing the reason behind my all-time favorite portrayal in Part 7… (the lower left corner of his mask being broken off by the boat propeller at the end of Part 6) it also really drives home the message that you should really just leave well enough alone. If he was dead enough to end up buried, then don’t do anything. Jason would still be in the ground and *LIKELY* just a complete skeleton by now if they’d just let him rest in peace… but then the movie couldn’t happen… Part 7 was probably the best overall stand-alone movie in my opinion. The costume and make-up effects are fantastic, the exposed skeletal details goes a long way to conveying just how much abuse he’d taken over the years while making him hauntingly imposing beyond just his size, resilience and strength. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the totally unmasked detailing as his lower jaw was sooooo misplaced that it was distracting… but even the moment before his mask split was amazing; the oozing “blood” from his mask-straps digging into his flesh was done quite well Freddy VS Jason is *CRIMINALLY UNDER-RATED* in my opinion. I think a lot of the heat it gets is that Kane Hodder wasn’t pursued to return, which I agree was a bad choice in terms of pleasing the fans and disrespectful to the guy that helped extend the franchise and perfect Jason’s physical mannerisms… but it’s still a fantastically well done slasher crossover with back-story, a believable plot and it actually built up a number of the humans with character arcs and growth, but still gave a very satisfying amount of Jason and Freddy time (to those saying that it’s too wacky/campy; you can thank Freddy for that. Him playing pinball with Jason is on-brand for a guy that appeared to take the form of a car in the closing seconds of the original. He’s a dream-demon with a sense for the dramatic and it actually kinda worked. I just wish that they had done a slightly different closing segment… keep the decapitated head but lose the camera wink… but then go to that teen that got impaled on the shelf-bracket (who was resting against the base of a tree) start to wince as he’s having a nightmare while clinging to life. Have a Freddy laugh play over the scene ~as~ the screen fades to black and back to the credits so the audience is left believing that the teen will live but that Freddy is already alive in the teens nightmare. F vs J is far better than it had any business being, but the omission of Hodder will always hurt its legacy, even though the guy they got did a fantastic job. I got the sense that he’d likely studied the previous 4 movies to get an idea of how Jason should move and emote with his body language and nuance Jason X is bad. It’s bad, it’s not good, but it’s campy/low-budget bad and because of that it comes around almost all the way back to being good (for what it is). It’s clear that a lot of the costume budget was used for Jason. My main complaint was that Jason had hair and no particular signs of a physical deformity. His head looked like a normal dude, but I really did like the embedded shoulder hooks/restraints, and the pre-upgrade version hockey mask was nicely updated while still feeling appropriate for the character. The movie is bad, but it’s not without its good points. It’s the most non-ironically enjoyable 3/10 movie I’ve ever seen. So much so that it might even rank as high as 4/10

I think his mother did find him after he drowned and had him stay out in the woods so that no one would ever harm him again. I say this because of the point you made about Jason learning his skills to hunt, stalk, kill and even play with his victims. We saw Pamela do all these things in the original so it would only make sense that she would have taught Jason these skills.
@MariuigiKhed

6:08 No, it was a curse. From where? Two canonical options: an Indian sorceress curse he brought for the massacre of his tribe (as seen in the comics), or the Evil Dead's Necronomicon (as seen in deleted scene of "Jason goes to Hell" and "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash"). No kidding: Pamela used the Necronomicon ex-Mortis to grant his son survival and the Indian curse explains the unnatural skills such as strenght, stamina, un-felt pain and teleportation since there was, few years later the casting of such curse another slaughterman before Jason birth.
@martinmalenak366

Anyway, everything that's been made to fill out the gaps in this mess of a timeline franchise, was just to make any kind of sense to this moneygrab of a franchise, ranging from how Jason survived drowning to how does a dead father jump out of the water with the use of telekinesis. They had no choice, than to go the supernatural path, when everyone involved just wanted to kill the franchise after the first movie, but studios pushed them into making more. Bloody Betsy Palmer only did it to pay up a car, and she was the best thing about part 1. The whole franchise is just a jumping board for people like Savini and Cunningham, to promote themselves, so they could move on to better projects.

I always kinda figured that the first film was his mother attempting some sort of Resurrection spell which required a certain number of murders which she failed at because he hadn't actually die but then in part 6 the lightning finished what she started and brought him back as a variation of a Deadite because of the Necronomicon Easter egg in the 9th film.

In the novelization of the series, Jason's father was a survivalist and taught Jason everything. He wanted to make sure his son can survive after he died. Sadly, he was murdered from a hit and run that Jason witnessed, upon tracking the jeep that killed his father to the camp he witnessed the murder of his mother and snapped.

There are many theories about whether Jason had lived or died during the drowning. I personally believe he died then was resurrected when his mother died. It was five years between 1 and 2, if Jason aged 5 years he could be an abnormally large late teenager.

No matter who tries to explain Jason Voorhees, EVERY scenario has GIGANTIC plot holes. For example: If Jason did survive and didn't drown, why wouldn't he go home? He could look for help if he couldn't remember how to get home. But now as grown he can operate any tool, build a shack, kill someone near others and they don't hear him. If he can do that, I'm sure he could find his way home.

As someone who suffered relentless bullying at school due to being autistic, I understand Jason’s anger at everyone. Why can’t I be like everyone else?? Why do I have to be bullied, harassed and humiliated constantly just for being me?? Why can’t I just be normal?? Are all things that I have thought and surely Jason would have thought too. It doesn’t justify his actions but it does make the character so much more tragic

The only explanation I can infer from Jason surviving (that's not supernatural) is Jason went underwater and then hid under the deck. As the children went to get the councillors, Jason got out of the water and ran into the woods.
@boomstickcritique902

Jason always acted supernaturally even in the old movies the only difference is they were more grounded. The only logical explanation that makes sense is that he drowned and died but his spirit wouldn't rest kind of like the Crow lol.
@JohnStanworth
2 жыл бұрын
@@boomstickcritique902 I disagree because if his spirit was inside a corpse, the corpse wouldn't age. In the bar scene in part 2, Ginny theorises Jason didn't drown so that's likely was the writer was explaining to the audience. Jason may've been supernatural from birth and that's how he survived drowning but he wasn't undead until part 6 IMO.
@boomstickcritique902
2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnStanworth You are trying to look at it more logically it's a B movie series all you have to say is it's magic and just see Jason as a revenant, not a zombie but more mystical type creature who's spirit can't rest. It's a B movie series no matter what idea you go with it will have holes because the series was never planned but by going magical you can explain any plot hole in the franchise.
@boomstickcritique902

@@JohnStanworth The idea that was brought up in part 2 that Jason may have survived and lived in the woods was because the director Steve Miner tried to ground the film so it would feel still in some form of reality like the first movie. But because they kept wanting to make more sequels this idea was ignored and retcon out with later films.

I believe Jason was a revenant in the early films (2-4), because there's no way a normal human could survive all that damage. He's killed with a machete in 2, hit in the head with an axe in 3, and nearly has his head cut in half in 4. In fact, it's only when Tommy starts wailing on him with a machete that Jason finally "dies".
@wadewilson8011
2 жыл бұрын
Revenants don't die. He was fully human in parts 1-4. He was never "killed" with a machete in part 2. Ginny only hit him in his shoulder and collar bone. That knocked him unconscious. It didn't kill him. He was hit in the head with an axe in 3. But that too knocked him out. Now he was definitely more resilient than the average human being. But he didn't become a revenant until part 6.

bud...bud... "murder" implies unjustified killing... any case of supposedly killing Jason is generally an act of self-defense born from a desperate situation. no one "murdered" Jason, they "killed" Jason... because Jason was attempting to "murder" them, after "murdering" their friends first... legally such acts would be ruled as "justifiable homicide" which isn't a crime, " murder" is a crime. and before you, or anyone thinks to ask if this one little word truly matters that much... yes, yes it does. in this case your repeated use of "murder" in Jason's supposed deaths would, for anyone who didn't know better like we all do, actually paints a picture as Jason being the hero or victim in these stories and not the evil antagonist to be overcome. words matter, one word changes the whole shape of a message or tale if the wrong word is used in the wrong place. use the right words with the correct meaning you wish to convey and it will improve your overall quality... also, I will brow raise, and facepalm less.
