I like how modest the reporter is, today it would be blown...out of the water, and made some huge scandal. Here they brush it off like it's just a bit of a scuffle.

Well I would say that the reporter was a bit too politically correct, a lot more could have said about this incident and the public should be a bit angrier. I think this guy undershoots, modern media WAAAAAY overshoots in terms of 'provoking a reaction'.

@@jabloko992 water polo was a tough violent game. I played in last few decades and the games gradually became almost non contact compared with what I heard from old time players.

@@elainekerslake6865 Yes that is true, but this one is very speciall since at the time the Hungarians had just been fighting the Soviets in Budapest (revolution of 56) , so there was that factor in the game I think. Of revenge on the soviet bullies

@@therealignotus7549 you got it wrong bud, the soviet player punched the hungarian player on purpose, and the freedomfighters were likely at least one of the causes behind it.

Sorry Barney, it was more than just a scuffle. Hungarians back in Hungary were being killed by Soviet forces and the team set out to get their own back. I was fifteen in Melbourne at the time, watching on b&w TV and cheering the Hungarians on. A large part of the Hungarian squad stayed on after the Games and their athletics coach Franz Stampfl gane me a few tips on the 800 metres.

I took direct footage from an archived recording of the match provided by kzitem.info/news/bejne/sIigr4OEf5Zploo I re-edited the footage to be sub 2 minutes, to help those wanting to incorporate the footage into class presentations.
