Hey, everyone likes what they like. Me, i have been listening and playing metal for years and most of it bores the shit out of me now days. I have always found the music/bands that give me a challenge last, familiar is just throw away. Personally, I really dig the talent and song writing of this band, have for many years.

It's Djent. Obviously you're not a fan but this is genuinely some of the most intricate and well put together music for this specific genre. Maybe steer clear of Djent if you don't enjoy this because this is arguably the pinnacle of the style.

I think you're just not a fan of Progressive metal or specifically Djent. That's perfectly fine, most people can't really vibe with it. But for those of us who do, this is amazing. One thing I'd say you should try to change your opinion on, though, would be your idea that a song should just be short, quick, easy to understand and unchanging. Throughout history music has always been an art form people used to tell stories and describe feelings. It has always changed melodies, tempos and atmospheres throughout the story telling and therefore throughout the songs. Only when music had to be produced for radio things changed. Songs suddenly had to be about 3-4 minutes long with the hook being within the first 30 seconds to quickly grab the attention of the listener. Also, the music had to be easily understood and the most amount of people had to be capable of vibing with it, which resulted in songs being short, uncomplicated, and easy to recognize and understand. However, since the internet became more popular than radio, musicians were free to create longer and more complicated songs again, which we can see today. Try to go along with it. Try to feel the atmosphere and understand the lyrics and feelings the artists are trying to communicate. This isn't music you put on the background. It's something you engage your heart and brain with.

Metal doesn't suck now, the problem people have with modern metal is the fact its not just another generic sounding metal band. Bands are more experimental now and willing to try different things. Outside of the ordinary. But now that is all starting to become ordinary and generic sounding. So now they need to try even harder to be different and experiment even more. I personally love the Japanese metal scene, I can never get bored of it. It's just so different lol. Especially once you start exploring the whole idol/metal scene. Personally I grew up listening to old school metal, as I got older I slowly started to prefer modern metal anything 90's and beyond. These days I lean more towards metalcore and deathcore. Old school metal was just getting to bland and stale, and bands that were trying to keep it alive just don't do it for me anymore. But I can say right now, I do not like this song in the video. Not enjoyable for me. Like you I don't feel the flow.

Mate you gotta learn how to give constructive criticism instead of just putting things you don't like down. It's fine to dislike a piece of music, it's not ok to be a dick about it.

I want to give you props for actually checking out "newer" music. You get a lot of hate in the comments but I think you being open minded is a fantastic trait to have. That being said, it's not for everyone. I am lucky enough to be born in the **perfect** time where I can enjoy old rock/metal, 00's nu metal (when i was born) and modern genre mixing. There are a lot of modern metal bands that I enjoy like sleep token, bad omens, and spirit box who are VERY experimental with music and I enjoy all of them a lot. I'm not sure what you listen to but I would check out Lorna shore - To the hellfire. It's ridiculously heavy

as somebody who likes this song it does go all over the place and its not for everybody. I like some of their other songs more like Juno. One band I would love to see what you think of is fit for an autopsy they have a pretty unique sound and are great at making some very headbangable groovy music. I love their most recent two albums and maybe you would be interested in them. the song conditional healing or a higher level of hate would be worth checking out in my opinion.

I can certainly agree that you can just like what you like. Personally I'm a bit all over the map. I've gone through phases listening to Tom MacDonald and Ren (neither one metal, but Ren is absolutely brilliant) and other genres. Hell, my brother in law is a barbershopper and I've even gone to some of their chorus shows. But I always find myself back to metal. Maybe I shouldn't have suggested Jinger now that I've seen some of your other reactions. :) Aw, screw it. Just give them a listen. You might just find something you like. That's what I've been doing trying to expand my listening. I will give just about anything a listen once. Discovered several really good bands that way.

Crap. Almost forgot........Skillet. Not metal really but hard rock. Christian hard rock specifically. I'm not Christian but I had to see them live. Mostly to see the drummer Jen Ledger play. She is soooooo entertaining to watch play. You cansee her just get into her groove and then headbang like crazy while playing (reminds me a bit of Animal from the Muppets with her hair flying) and then sings backup vocals while playing too.

Two suggestions: "In Mourning - Beyond Thunder"(melodic death metal) & "Evergrey - All I have"(progessive metal with more orthodox song structures). War of Being is probably Tesseract's least accessible song because its maybe their least orthodoxically written song. Song's like Echoes and Juno are much more accessible and a bit more orthodox. Best way to intro to a band is to get more accessible song suggestions.

Seems like prog stuff or djent won’t be your style. Having watched your first three videos I don’t understand how you say wheel and Tesseract do nothing for you yet the Viking song did which sounds like the same regurgitated stuff for decades. I used to be in the same boat as you said with your profile liking SOAD, etc… not to say I don’t like that when I hear it but there is nothing intricate about those bands and they are quite plain. I feel as though listeners with a more creative mind enjoy prog/djent more as they appreciate the time and effort it takes to write the songs they perform. Not to mention Daniel Tompkins has one of the most dynamic voices out there. I will try to follow the channel and hope that you react to more similar music though I feel unless you open your mind up a bit more to how the music is made, you won’t enjoy it.

Like most prog music this song should be taken in context with where it goes in the album. This song definitely doesn't have a 4/4 flow for the masses. It's songwriting at it's peak of creativity and skill without selling out to modern music trends that drain the soul from the sound. If you want a 3 minute song that repeats 5 times with a catchy riff, then this would be torture to listen to.

Well, it's true if you don't like metal/prog band, that must have been torture to listen to it. But that's the drawback of not doing research prior listening to a music/band. To me, prog music, is indeed mostly ambiance sound and technical skills. There's no need for a riff that remains in memory. If it's not your cup of tea, then just don't listen to that kind of music because i can tell you that for those who like it, this piece has many qualities and it's a turning point in the band career. I understand that react videos are meant to be subjectives. But subjective about subject you don't already like is pointless. You shouldn't have released this react video. Plain and simple. I'm not saying there shouldn't be react videos of people being honest and say what they feel and don't like. But again, if you don't get the point of prog music, that's ok. Personnaly, i don't see the point of telling your audience you don't like this music while you already don't like this genre of music globaly. You really think you'll listen to a prog music and will suddenly change your mind ? Come on. You should know better.

It's not new metal, man. Unevan Structure did this years ago. What Mr. Tompkins and his mates set out to achieve goes right over your head, and it doesn't faze them one bit. Open your mind, man. When you say you don't get it, it's not the "getting it" part that's important. You don't ask how the sausage is made; you just eat it. Enjoy the ride of evocative power and breathe, my brother.

You are definitely missing something but I don't think any of us will be able to help you. Your summary of the music, "Boring, hated it, no structure, cool riff disappeared, don't understand the video, don't understand what singer is saying and the connection, jumping between voice styles, and no solo!" Then you say that you feel bad for us? Those are all YOUR problems, and your lack of capacity to understand. I feel bad for you being stuck in the mud and being proudly ignorant about it.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but it seems like your distaste for this song is coming from a place of misunderstanding, or not understanding. This song takes dozens of listens to sink in. If “metal” to you is blast beats in 4/4, I honestly feel bad for you. I didn’t hear much of an actual musical critique from you in this video.
