@@christianluke5176 how awesome! Funny story.. after a show we went to a restaurant and some moanalua members were there. They had BD uniforms (at least then). I was in my BD jacket. They were all looking at me. I went up to a student in his uniform and just walked around him looking. It was the same one I marched in. I was like hmm. Interesting. Then walked away. Lol I ended up going to teach there the next year. Mililani kids were pissed. A couple legit wanted to fight me haha. The moanalua director was a huge Bd fan. He made Bd guard in the 80s but his mom didn’t let him march. They even played F Tuning. Kamehemeha hired the SCV staff so they were always good. But they had the money for it obviously. My Bd marching tech who is Hawaiian was there as well (he taught at BD and SCV when I was marching in 98/99). We still beat them though lol

@@ez8308 Ah I see haha. Well I work at both Kamehameha and Mililani HS still. I've worked with some Moanalua students as well during the winter season. All programs produce wonderful and hard-working students. From my experience, all programs have local tech staff with some talented designers from the mainland. All three seem to have their own strengths and weaknesses, but what I enjoy the most now is the camaraderie between the programs. It's crazy how a lot of them grew strong friendships through this activity, regardless of the program they come from :)

@@christianluke5176 that’s true. I think it’s changed a lot especially because of the internet and social media. Same in drum corps. Before you would have rivalries and no one really knew each other. But now there are rivalries but a lot of people know each other online before even meeting so it’s changed the atmosphere quite a bit. I was surprised how great the bigger marching bands were in Hawaii when I first got there! Glad to hear it’s still going strong 😁

Your Moanalua director must have gotten his years mixed up. BD did not have any boys in their guard until 1992. I know this because I wanted to march BD so badly, but I happily settled for the Sacramento Freelancers in 83 and 84. I was hoping by the time I turned 21 BD would have added boys, but my age out year was 1990. It just was not meant to be. I was born in the bay area so I always loved BD. I still do.

There is a feature for youtube videos under settings for playback speed. When you toss, you count how many times the gun passes through a "right flat" position, not including the first right flat as soon as it comes off of your hand. This is a good way to check the rotation for tosses. I suggest you recount the rotation at 0.25 speed to check your mistake. Note that I'm acknowledging this comment not only because it's wrong, but also for its lack of positivity and constructive feedback. There are people who do make errors, whether it's miscounting rotations or cheating certain skills/tricks, and when they do, there is a right and wrong way to go about *informing and *educating them on how to properly execute. Before you come for anyone again, please reconsider your delivery and make sure you're not the one in the wrong. No hate, just positivity and education please. Especially considering the current state of the activity, thats what we all need the most :) Have a good one.
