Starlings somehow always behave like they know they’re not supposed to be there, lol.

Welcome to my H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks. We should all be offended by this invasive species. But in any case, I've never heard these kinds of blue jay calls before -- very interesting!

The reason that starlings are in North America at all is due to the actions of one man. Back in the late 19th century, some idiot in Central Park came up with the brilliant idea of releasing into the wild all of the birds mentioned by Shakespeare, which includes starlings. He must not have done his homework, because starlings are very aggressive birds who will attack other species of birds over nesting rights. Now, there are millions of starlings here, and they are a threat to native bird species.

@@Akira625 Oh, I know the story, and it's infuriating! And I say this as a Shakespeare fan. Starlings are smart birds that can sometimes be pretty, but they have wrought havoc in North America as a collective. And common grackles get the guilt-by-association thing by flocking with them -- though they are native, and possibly in decline, people really don't like them. Sorry... rant over.

I've heard this little call, or whatever it is, from Stellar's Jays, but have never associated it with stress or a challenge. It's interesting. I wonder what's going on. Maybe it's a territorial tune.

I think the blue jay was wanting the peanut that was close to the starling. Blue jays really like peanuts.
