Inbound & Outbound MBTA Blue Line trains meet at Airport Station in this May 2023 scene. Notice how the trains switch from third rail to overhead catenary power here - this is currently the only MBTA Rapid Transit line to run on more than one type of power supply. The Blue Line is one of five rapid transit lines operated by the MBTA and serves the eastern Boston suburbs as well as Logan International Airport, the latter of which is this station's namesake. The line is colored Blue for the fact that it travels underneath Boston Harbor and generally follows the waterfront as it runs from Bowdoin Square in Downtown Boston to the Wonderland Transportation Center in Revere. Long-term plans call for both eastern and western extensions to directly connect the Blue and Red Lines at Charles/MGH (the only two rapid transit lines without a direct connection to each other) as well as a more significant extension from Revere to Lynn.
