For the last month, I've had my Blue Yeti set to the full room setting (not the carioid) because any time I used Cardioid, everyone said I sounded like crap. I was just so unhappy with how I sounded on this Blue Yeti. A few videos said Blue Yetis are just not good for streaming and are more for like round table discussions, so I was like, "Okay, guess I'll just stick with the Blue Yeti until I get my stream setup finished, and then buy one of those 300 dollar mics that are super popular". Well, at 1:55 you literally solved my problem. I don't know how all the other videos I watched managed to not explain I was actually speaking into the back of the mic this whole time. Goddam man... goddam. THANK YOU.

@@Domdoenbaby , I think I tried talking into different ends, but my friends said they heard no difference. Not to blame them, but I think they weren't even paying attention, so I probably should have tested it myself with playback.

@@DemothHymside you were probably using the omni-directional mode. cardiod mode, the most popular mode for streaming and gaming which helps isolate background noises takes sound from only the front of the mic. when using the omni-directional mode, sounds from all around the mic are picked up. refer back to the guide you got in the packaging or google the 4 modes.

Great video. Only think I would have added was a mention of Blue Voice which I think makes my voice sound better as well as it does some cleanup of background noise. The one thing I struggle with is cardioid vs stereo. Because there might be a use for the dual channels to not be identical.

Who knew? This was helpful. The only issue though is those who have volume settings on their end if your gain is turned all the way up; it really amplifies it which means you have to turn the gain back to for the microphone, or honestly maybe they just have their volume ALL the way up.

Thank you so much for this video. I bought the Blue Yeti I want to say almost a year ago and I have admittedly been making a lot of these mistakes. I just ordered a windscreen that's coming in a few days and I'm hoping it'll help a little bit, but definitely need to position it more off to the side and not directly in front of me. Unfortunately a stand/boom arm and shock mount aren't quite in my budget just yet (hopefully one day, just not today). I've been playing around with putting the mic on its factory stand on a stack of books to bring it closer to my face. I have yet to film any videos for my channel using that method yet, but it looks like it'll do for now. I used to hold it, but I am very expressive with my hands so that method was doing more harm than good in my case because I was moving the mic away from me quite a bit or it was never placed at a consistent distance or position making the audio very disjointed. Also I have been talking into the top of it or the back of it or somehow both at the same time. Oh boy. I've been a mess with this mic.

The Nano is the one I bought. And it works really well. Not overly complex. Just plug and play. Learned the hard way not to install the additional Software drivers. And picking the right USB port helps too. Not all USB slots are the same. So I’d suggest knowing your hardware before you do the first setup.

Thank you. Very informative. I just got my blue yeti today and was looking for how to properly use it to get the best sound. This video gave an excellent education in under 10 minutes. I just ordered an adjustable mic stand, foam windscreen and shock mount. I also appreciate the no cost simple acoustic "treatment" of put a towel on the desktop. I have a glass desktop it's a hard surface, sound for sure will bounce off of it. Putting a thick towel on the desk will at least eliminate that one acoustic issue and it's the one sitting right in front of me so it's a good one to get rid of.

I used to use RTX Voice and run my mic through the program for my captures but lately it has been making my voice sound weird or not pick up on it, so some of my recent videos (without using the RTX) have had some popping sound when I speak into it. But I moved the mic from in front of my face to the side with the Blue Logo facing the left side of my face and I find that it helps. Also, I use the sleeve pop filter and the disk one. I find it helps for now until I can get an actual recording room.
