Here’s some clarification for anyone confused by the girl who said she wants to stay depressed: From my knowledge and personal experience with depression, it really does feel like a security blanket for many people. Think of it like when you wake up on a cold winter morning and don’t want to throw off your warm blanket even though you have important things to do or even when your favorite breakfast waiting for you on the counter. You may have every reason to get up, but you just don’t want to leave the warmth and comfort of your blanket. That’s what depression feels like. For me, I’ve been depressed for years and after a while you kind of learn to live with it. It’s a serious pain and is in no way enjoyable, but having learned to live with it, eventually it feels almost as though it’s become a sort of toxic friend to you. It’s so normal to you that you don’t even question it and instead begin to welcome it. It’s the familiarity that makes it comfortable, as well as the sense of security you feel while under it. By familiarity, I mean it’s become the usual for you, as it becomes a part of your life, integrating with every aspect of your life. The security of depression is equivalent to lying on your bed with a blanket over your body and soundproof headphones covering your ears. It’s like you get to escape from all your problems. At least from what I know, a huge reason that depression is so difficult to fight is the fear of healing. Depression is something that you know and are familiar with. Healing feels alien and scary. Even though you know that it’s something that you want, something that will bring you indescribable joy and satisfaction, it’s still unfamiliar to you, so you hesitate to reach for it. Anyways, sorry for the essay.😅 I hope learning this this is as helpful to you as it was, and still is for me. I believe in you! Don’t give up!❤

Y’all never heard of internalized homophobia? It’s like when a black person hates their own skin, but with gay people. Is it really that weird?
