Instead of playing anything anywhere with no structure, consider this exercise in which you lay down the left hand accompaniment of your choice and then play one, then two, up to 7 notes of the blues scale but starting from first beat 1, then two, then three, then four. Try this ascending and descending. You will notice improvements to your hand independence. This exercise opens up the ability to play any length of phrase starting on any beat and even any note of the scale. Step by step.
