NOTE: The audio for the LAB-3 LP was recorded from a single stereo microphone directly feeding the master disc cutting amplifier, hence “direct to disc.” Recording direct-to-disc meant that an LP side, consisting of four to five songs, needed to be recorded in its entirety in one take, without mistake, with a short pause between songs to allow the lathe operator to advance the cutting head for the next song while still recording live. In 1977 the LAB-3 LP was nominated for a Grammy award for "Best Engineered Recording Other Than Classical" but lost out to George Benson's Breezin'. The audio appearing in this video is from the CD-900 CD, which was recorded in parallel using a two-track master tape and transferred directly to the digital compact disc master.
