Often I see clients who have been told they have an eye dominance problem when #shooting and have been sold a magic #eyedominance cure to stick on their gun or on their glasses.
Pretty frequently, the underlying cause is an eye issue which needs attention.
In this case, a few years after successful cataract surgery, this lady experienced blurred vision which meant the shooting eye couldn’t see the target.
The implant has clouded (which is very common) and reduced the acuity on this side. The other eye was perfectly sharp, hence the visual rivalry.
No after market gun add-ons will make a difference here, and patches on her glasses just reduced her vision to near zero, leading to head lifting and a seriously sore cheekbone.
Fortunately, a quick bit of laser sorted it out!
Prior to seeing me, the client had been sold;
Patches - caused a general blur in vision and “head-lifting”.
Fibre-optic bead - useful for gun mount, hopeless for shooting gun down (in this instance)
Stick-on barrel bumps - null result, didn’t cause anything negative but achieved nothing.
A side rib - 🤯
A custom stock.
A new gun - very nice, no better.
At NO POINT had anyone checked, can this person see out of their right eye? 🤔
The picture shows why, in this case, she couldn’t.
Eye dominance is a multifactorial issue for which there is no panacea.
Some shooters may experience positive effects from beads, full occlusion dots, side-ribs, spatial gratings or any of the other commercially available aids, whereas others may experience null or
negative results.
Any product or company that claims to have produced a single product that “cures” eye dominance issues simply hasn’t read enough about the causes or is wilfully misleading...

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, capsular opacification occurs in 20-50% of patients within 2-5 years of surgery and can be detrimental to visual sharpness.
