You can now transfer for free between these stations, but it means a long climb to Junius Street station from street level. and a climb back up on the pedestrian overpass over the freight line overpass to Livonia. Last time I was there, you had to return to street level to use the elevator to the Manhattan bound platform or use stairs. Also, last time I checked, an overpass level connection of these stations was in the MTA budget.

The one improvement I knew that happened during the 1980s decade was that the 2 train and the 3 train switched Brooklyn terminals. The 3 train was switched to the Livonia Avenue line to run between New Lots Avenue and 148 Street-Lenox Terminal, and the 2 train between Flatbush Avenue-Brooklyn College and East 241 Street--Wakefield, formerly East 241 Street-White Plains Road. When I was a child, the 2 train ran between New Lots Avenue and East 241 Street-White Plains Road, with 53 station stops, the most stops on the New York City rapid transit system. As for the extension of the Canarsie (L) Line, different plans happened when there were many companies owned private railroad systems. Your history was made for me well enough to make me be a wise railroad buff.

I appreciate you wanting to help the Q58 bus, but it is already being handled. With the Queens Bus Network redesign, there will be a faster Q98 select bus service. It will take a more direct route and only stop at the most important points on a route, like a subway would.
@jointransitassociation
Жыл бұрын
The first rule in transit is that buses don't equal trains. No matter how grand a BRT you build, it will never equate to what a rail line can support. The Q58 is a popular bus route that runs back to back buses to support the mountain of riders it sees. Even with all of those buses, there is a crowd at those bus stops. Also, the IBX parallels the Q58 between Brooklyn and Queens to an extent. If riders want to continue their journey to Flushing, then they can transfer to the 7. You can argue about overcrowding on the 7, and you are right about that, but that is why we are advocating for the 7 Train Project.

@jointransitassociation

@@transitcaptain Who said I want to abolish the Q58/98? I am just saying that the IBX will take a massive dent out of the overburdened Q58 bus, which is needed because one more bus route, even if it marketed as "fast" when it only travels at 15 mph, is not going to solve the overcrowded Q58. That has happened with every SBS line the city rolled out because the city thought that BRT could replace a rail line, but since buses are not trains, they rarely address the crowding that these buses have, and generally don't save much time. To give you a bit of reference, a while ago, I decided to take the Q11 over the Q52/53 to see how much time it would take for one of those buses to overtake the local bus. When I got on the local bus, the sign said that the next SBS bus would arrive in 3 minutes. I took the Q11 all the way to the last stop, and that SBS bus did not overtake the local, which really goes to show that BRT/SBS is extremely over-hyped and does not really solve anything. And this phenomenon does not only apply to the Q52/53, it applies to other routes: www.gothamgazette.com/130-opinion/7599-the-great-select-bus-service-conspiracy-part-i There is no real cheat code to better transit. You either build a train line, or don't. That is the reality. And obviously, once the city builds a rail line, keep the bus route. There are going to be people that prefer the bus over the rail.

I think that this BMT L train extension definitely can and should be accomplished. Based on how the MTA is operating with its approved projects currently in the works, they are using existing stricture that was built/used in the past. They’re not trying to do much building from scratch. At New Lots Avenue, the future IBX tracks and the L train tracks are adjacent to each other. You’ll notice if you exit the station at New Lots and look above you. Since this is the case, creating a merge just after that Station shouldn’t be much work in order to have one branch of the L train terminate at Flatbush Brooklyn College. However, the only risk you may run is possible interlining once the IBX comes into service. The other branch of the L should continue into Canarsie itself. I think buses or at most, bus rapid transit can on Rockaway Parkway down to the pier. No need for the Spring Creek extension since the 3 can be extended. I am so glad someone pointed out that footbridge from the L train. If you look closely at the edge, a simple stairwell or escalator construction can connect to the 3 platform on the New Lots side. It would’ve costed very little money and a little bit of time. My question is, since there is an open cut railway, was the stop at Manhattan (Broadway) junction supposed to be underground?

@@jointransitassociation okay, that makes sense. I’m looking at this old map of the former BMT Lexington Avenue line and finding some interesting things. Apparently there was also supposed to be a Central Avenue stop on the L, but now there’s the existing Wilson Av and Bushwick-Aberdeen stations. I’m wondering if there are any remnants around that way that would’ve connected the line to the then called Canarsie railroad. However, according to the map key, below this junction is only showing an elevated BMT Canarsie line terminating at the Pier.

The routing is very odd and unusual. But obviously it was designed to serve Canarsie. Why it was chosen to serve Canarsie is instead of serving south east Brooklyn and possibly South East Queens, I don't know. But being that the "L" is such a short line, that means many opportunities persist in extending it to Southeast Queens. However, that might mean totally abandoning it Canarsie route to a route pointing to Queens. But will this be the best use of linited transit budgets? I say No! And my reason is the "L" doesn't have capacity for express tracks. And ir route is very curvy, which requires slow speeds. But there might be a place for it if it was connected to rhe Air train at Howard Beach. It would serve a greater area than current. But having the "A" as an option at Howard Beach and than again at East New York over shadows anything that an extended "L" can provide. And this takes me to the #3. You know the #3 really kind off dead ends to nothingness. And even Canarsie is more important than New Lots. So an.extension of the #3 is necessary to give it a place on New York Subway Map. But the #3 is almost as bad as the "L". It is a local. Not too many people will stick with it in South east Queens. But at least somewhere down.the line, you got the #4 Express. But no one would wait for that opportunity down the line once a cross connection between the #3 and "A" is made.. Most likely Aqueduct or possibly Howard Beach. If there is one place that the "A" Express does well, it is along Fulton Street. Making it one of the best Express runs of any Brooklyn line. So sending the #3 to South East Queens must have an Express option. Otherwise, people will crowd on the "A", because it would just be too attractive to avoid. As for the "L", again! It is dead is in the water. I also have to add that the "L" only uses 8 cars. So it capacity is somewhat limited. While the #3 uses 9/10 cars and can consume 25% more people.

My master plan calls for creating a connection eventually between the "E" and the #3, which would terminate at Green Acres. Extending Lefferts Blvd "A" via Linden Blvd to Springfield. An eventual connection between the "E" Guy R. Brewer and "A" Linden Blvd would be made.

I don't like that proposal. The IRT New Lots line is not over capacity, and it runs 9-10 tph. So having extra service at New Lots isn't really a priority. What is a priority that demands the 3 or 4 is Utica Ave. Utica Ave absolutely deserves a subway, so sending the 3 or 4 down Utica would be much better than having the 3 and 4 both run on New Lots. In the future, when we need to increase service, we can deinterline and fix key bottlenecks. These are services that could now run: 2/3 via IRT Nostrand, 30 tph 4 via IRT New Lots, 15 tph 5 via IRT Utica, 15 tph

The 3 train however should def be sent out to Linden Blvd and Gateway Mall at Flatlands. The L train should also be sent out underground towards Linden Blvd. To connect to spring creek out there near the Linden Multiplex Movie theatre. It can terminate at Elderts Lane or Loring Ave. Or furthermore, there’s a bleak possibility that it could be sent out to Queens but to touch areas that don’t see any trains.
