Building maintenance units, better known as BMUs, are the gargoyles of modern architecture. They are always up, "watching," being part of the skyline of big cities like London, Dubai, and New York. They are perceived only by those who work in construction or facade maintenance. For the rest of the people, they go unnoticed.
BMUs, roughly speaking, are cranes to carry human window cleaners or facade workers. These machines can weigh 60 tons and have telescopic arms up to 45m long and telescopic masts up to 10m tall at working position. To maintain these vast steel monsters, workers must connect themselves to fall arrest systems that allow them to move freely and safely along the BMU's tracks or climb the telescopic masts and arms of big machines. SecuRope horizontal flexible lifelines, SafeLadders, and SecuRail horizontal/vertical/inclined rigid lifelines were installed by Integral Cradles - facade access specialists at many of their installed BMUs in London. Thank you for letting us share such exceptional installations.
