My reservoir was leaking, so I purchased a new reservoir and pump. Followed your instructions and was able to fix it. Coming from a 2004 Mercedes Benz to a 2007 BMW 328i, I must say that after fixing several things, I find the BMW easier to work on myself then the Benz. Mine was leaking from the pump too.

It seems the washer pumps on these go almost always. Never the reservoir itself. I picked up a new pump for $7. Some people seal the pump leak with putty. But for $7 and putty being $5 -$10 anyway might as well just get a new pump.

Excellent demonstration. Great Work!! To make it perfect, you could mention your YEAR/MODEL. I am not sure if all 3 series have the same design. Thank You.

I did this on my 2008 BMW X5 E70 last night. It was much more challenging than shown and there were a few differences. First off removing the fender trim involves breaking about 8-10 plastic rivets you need to be ready to replace. The rubber liner inside the wheel well has a front and rear section .The rear section is most essential to loosen. There are about 10 different screws and rivets to remove (including a few under the car). You may also have to loosen the running board trim to get the bottom part free. Once you are able to pull it forward you can see the reservoir but the reservoir attachments are not visible and I did not see a way to remove the entire reservoir. I think you might have to remove the whole fender to get it out? Luckily you can reach inside behind the fender (very tight space) to dislodge the pump and bring it forward where you can reconnect the power plug on the top and the fluid line on the bottom. Its a little challenging to reach inside behind the fender to stick it back in place. Note my car had 2 pumps (windshield and rear window?). I replaced the one in front (closest to the wheel) first only to find out there was still a leak. I replaced the second one (further back) which seems to have been the culprit. In all it took me a couple hours and was pretty challenging. Hope that helps.

Hello, thank you for commenting about your 2008 x5, which is the same as mine. also with front pump not spraying but I can here the sound of the pump and no leak that I can see.. could you please clarify, did you have to remove your running board to remove the rear fender liner? Did you have remove your fender? If I remove my front and back portions of the fender liner would I be able to remove the entire tank without removing the fender? This is so I don’ t have to remove my fender. Thank you in advance if you can reply.

Great tutorial, watched it a few times before attempting to change the pump that was obviously leaking on a 2010 X1. Just a couple of extra fixings on wheel arch trim but everything else was identical. Thanks for the great help!!

2013 bmw 128 dealer quoted $430 to replace leaking pump. I did this before on a Z3 they made it as difficult as possible to get to that pump. Great Video.

Hi, I have an issue with my bmw X5. the windscreen jets werent working. so i took it to a mechanic and he said the jets neeed replacing. he replaced them and i came back next day and drove off. i checked to see if the windscreen washer was working but it wasnt. so is it a possibility that its the washer pump that needed replacing as it appears that theres a leak. and also for some reason the jet motor seems to have stopped working now too

If you have a newer model F30 BMW 328i (2013 and newer). The filler tube is less than 6" long and connects to the top of the reservoir. Unlike the filler tube shown in this video. And the one bolt that has to be removed is at the top of the reservoir, not far from the filler tube. Everything else is very similar. You can simply reach between the fender with pliers and pull the filler tube out of the reservoir. No clips or anything holding it in, just the rubber seal.

If you can find the pin , after you punch it out. And are very careful when you pull out the plug. You have a chance of reusing them. They are less than $.50 ea, so I bought a half dozen to have extras. BMW part#: 51161881149

I would imagine it's the same for a right-hand drive vehicle. Yes, the windshield washer pump can be replaced without removing the reservoir.

Have You or anyone experienced washer not pumping to windshield? Can't hear pump motor when switched but also wiper does not come on as well when switch is pulled forward. All other wiper functions are operational, so I'm thinking switch , wiring, or wiper relay? Anyone got anything on this? Thanks! BTW great video, very thorough!

Check for voltage at the windshield washer pump when the switch is activated. Check the JBE module. A scanner may be helpful with this.
