Thanks for the demo. Just a quick question why do you need distilled water? I have just been to bmw dealer (in Australia) and asked whether I should use distilled water or just water from tap and they said it doesn’t matter. Sorry for my questions as I have never done this myself before.

Its helps prevent erosion in your car parts. Tap water has a lot of mi nerals and over time can cause corrosion.

Hey, nice vid. Can u tell me how imp it is to use distilled water and not bottled water? The bmw service rep told me i could use bottled as well but i dont believe him.
@ancientpho
4 жыл бұрын
I'd be careful with bottled water simply because some companies add minerals to their bottled water to improve the taste. You just don't want minerals like calcium or magnesium getting into the radiator because over time they build up and overheat the engine. Distilled water is recommended, or de-ionized water.

@@ancientpho Thanks for your comment mario. It makes sense so ill definitely go for distilled only.

Is there any specific reason to why distilled water is added rather than just putting the coolant solution in?
@ancientpho
6 жыл бұрын
Shubob TV the brands you find in stores are usually already premixed so they wouldn’t need distilled water, but this BMW specific coolant is concentrated without distilled water, so you have to do a 50/50 mix. As for your main question, coolant has a low freezing point, so if you hit a decent cold winter the coolant will freeze and it’ll do damage to the engine. Mixing distilled water or deionized water increases the threshold at which the coolant freezes, so it can handle colder winters. Coolant has a high boiling point so the heat part of it doesn’t really play a factor here. I hope this answers your question.

Kiara J doesn’t matter as long as it’s half and half. For example 50ml of water and 50ml of concentrated coolant. You just have to gauge the amount that you need depending on how low your coolant is.

I was reading on the coolant bottle that you should run the engine after with the cap open. Can anyone confirm?
@ancientpho
6 жыл бұрын
ralph geronilla What you're referring to is when you drain the coolant from the entire system and refill it again, this is when you'd run the engine without the radiator cap on, because you want to bleed the air out of the system. You might also need to do this if you notice that your engine is running hotter than normal, this could mean you have air pockets that are causing hot spots in the coolant system, in which case you would want to run the engine without the radiator cap on, and a few other things. The point is, if you're just topping off some coolant, this video is all you need to follow. I hope this answers your question.

Mario , on the E90 there’s a bleeding procedure with engine off. Contact ON, ac off, air blowing at minimum and heat at max, step on the gas pedal for 10 sec and the bleeding will start. Takes about 12 mins. Just open the small bleeding screw next to the cap.

Justina Branham I have the e90 328i and the BMW brand coolant or the Zerex G48 will be best. No other coolant is recommended because I believe the corrosion factor is not up-to-par for the aluminum block.

boss hogg / The coolant reservoir for the X6 if you're facing the engine is on the right side. The difference is that there is no floater, instead there will be a written indicator inside the reservoir that you can plainly see.
