Thank you! You guys rock. This video is full of great info plus it showed me how to reassemble the air intake ducting on this model. That task seems very simple but those pieces don't want to fit together (and the front fitting of the long duct will actually rip) unless reassembled in the order that you show. This is the only source of information I've ever seen on how to do that. Thanks! 👍👍

My buddies X3 just lost the pump on the freeway! Love the temp control on these. Threw it in limp mode before the coolant temp gauge ever got past halfway! Safe to say this video is going to be helpful tomorrow!

The thermostat has no sensor, it's connector is for a heating element. Beyond being an open or short there is no communication between it and the ECU.

Question: I have a 2008 BMW X.3… Can the thermostat develop small fractures and start to drip?
@fcpeuro

Hi Jerry, while not common, it can happen as plastic gets old and brittle.

I'm at 80k on my E82...not looking forward to this also. There's a short 4" plastic tube up top that is a random fail point. Replace it with an 'alloy' update IIRC; makes total sense at this time while the coolant is drained.

I'd been procrastinating on replacing these on my X3 for a while leaving it parked in the garage for a couple months. I followed along to this video, and now they're done. Took me WAY longer than 30m mostly due to trying to get tools and bolts lined up on my back on the floor. It was successful all the same!

Success story we love to hear Tim! Sometimes things take longer than expected, but its always best to take your time, step by step, and get it done right vs rushing it (or not doing it at all)! Happy to help.

Excellent! This video dropped on the same day I was replacing the radiator hose/mickey mouse flange on my N52 E90. On the E90 you have to remove the sway bar bracket to reach the pump, unless you have the assorted u-joints and flexible doodads described in this video. I'm not looking forward to when/if I have to replace the thermostat and water pump in that car.
@fcpeuro

Never hurts having the right flexible doodad though Homer! Did you replace it with the Aluminum we offer!?
@homer4163

@@fcpeuro yes! I used the one with the aluminum flange. When I did the coolant bleed it threw some codes about the coolant temp sensor so I’ll be replacing that too.

Excellent video, very well documented. I now can see exactly what is involved and how tight the vicinity is to work in. My N52 has less than 40K miles but is coming up on 14 years old so I think when I have this done I will also do all the hoses and the oil pump gaskets. Very good info, next time I'm in CT I have to stop in and say hello.

My X3 is overheating but not consistently and I'm NOT getting any codes, I've changed almost everything in the cooling system except the Thermostat, which I plan to do this weekend...Could it be my Fan?
@fcpeuro
2 жыл бұрын
If your fan is not switching on, that can cause issues with your coolant system. A sticking thermostat will also cause the vehicle to overheat, which could be your culprit.
