That's what they say, if you had them all, before you die, you shall get yourself a GS. Motorcycle for pipe and slippers type of guy. What do you think ?
I have one of these old men bikes and I'm over 68, so I guess it fits. Here is how I view it! I wanted something comfortable, durable, lots of power, good milage, great handling, easy to load for all the roads I wanted to ride around the world. I have had lots of bikes all my life and after a long career of hard work, I felt like why not treat yourself to the best when you retire!!!!!!!

Anyone who calls these bikes "old man's bikes" has never ridden one. Even the bigger, heavier Adventure is extremely capable in the twisties. Firm up the suspension, dynamic mode, and it'll keep up with the majority of anything else if you're a good enough rider. Oh, and I'm 26.

What a fun little clip. I am on my sixth bike, and its the smaller 700GS. And yes Im in my 50s and it IS the ultimate bike. You have to ride the others to know. When you get older and you have been biking most of your life, there really is not many bikes that can still give you the feeling you had when you first got on a bike as a youngster. This does. Its just the super upgraded version of that first ride you ever took on a bike. And thats why we ride -not just to recreate that feeling but some day surpass it.

Not an old man's bike, a motorcycle connoisseur's bike, because only those who really understand and appreciate two-wheeled performance in the real world under 100 mph and in tight corners will recognize the incredible ability and feel of these bikes. Unique. No other machine gives the same level of feel for the grip of the tire. Wait! Not true. The Supermoto dirt bike with street tires. Suspension compliance means grip. So unlikely-looking, but so very very good at roadholding and agility. Yes, I've owned one a long time. I heard the tales, and rented one for a 1500 mile ride. It took a few miles and corners to understand. Now, it remains my favorite, though I am lucky to try many bikes of all ages. If you want a bike for it's capability, and not for it's appearance or image, this is the one for you.

Fab - loved it! Apart from top heaviness, does the GSA give away much to the GS on such open road sports touring rides at speed - I'm thinking handling, given it has longer travel suspension, and maybe(?) slightly different geometry re steering head angle etc. Apart from out and out top speed, the GS gives away little to supposedly much 'sportier' machinery. Kudos! :-)
@miragegp
7 жыл бұрын
Cheers John. GS is ever so slightly more "planted" than GSA. Top heaviness, in my view, is the biggest factor. When you lean over, hit a bump, it sways more, making rider less comfortable and in control.

Already started customizing it. They are amazing machines - Taking it down to southern Italy in a weeks time for a spot of off-roading. If I get bored of it's "sluggishness" which tbh I don't see as being an issue at all, I'll just jump on a GSX-R for a few hours. But this thing is a pure torque monster.

I hear the GS called "heavy" but realistically how many 1200cc motorcycles that can carry a passenger and luggage in true comfort are any lighter? With the boxer engine they don't feel heavy when you are on them and feel much less inclined to want to fall over than most other large motorcycles at low speed and when maneuvering.

I think they are typically an old man's bike because most of us couldn't afford one until we were old, but in every other respect that's just a silly statement. No other bike combines the performance, handling and comfort of a GS if you are tall. I don't notice many people travelling and cornering faster than my GS regardless of their age. Personally from what I see there are more old men on Harley Davidsons. When you get older, comfort and ergonomics become very important compared to how cool anyone else thinks you are, when I was young I could ride anything for miles never considering comfort, now the amazing DSA suspension and leg room makes it something I can actually enjoy.
