Funny but you summed up my experience with my own BMW S1000r. Stupid fast and capable bike but could not for the life of me bond with it. Never felt like I was the one in control? So sold it and went old school XJR1300. No rider aids at all, heavy, slow (compared to the S1000r) but love it because I felt part of the bike. Go figure.

#1 Thank you guys so much for keeping the spirit of motorbikes alive! You are hands down the best channel out there for motorcycles (aside from our Lord Michael Neeves obviously). You convey the exciting nature of bikes, a great example is your review of the Suzuki 8R. Everyone else’s review was so boring I ended up watching yours twice!!! 😁 I watch your reviews and want to go out and buy them all!! Motorcycles are exciting! Despite manufacturers move towards pensioner friendly parallel twins and the move away from sports bikes there are still loads of us out here who love the POWER!!!! #2 So bravo to BMW for making a pensioner friendly/comfortable missile!! Yes it’s too fast for the road but on the once or twice a ride you can open the taps there’s nothing more exciting and uplifting. Screaming in your helmet and boring the pants off your mates afterwards regaling stories of mind warping performance. If we don’t have bikes like the BMW, Hayabusa and the Panigale v4s what are we left with!? I’m 56 yers old and I’m still not ready to give up my sports bikes, just can’t bring myself to buy an Adventure bike, regardless of how practical, comfortable they are. But with bikes like this BMW I could be swayed and make that big step towards comfort, practicality and old age. Never thought I’d say that. Please keep it up the excellent work, reminding us why we liked bikes in the first place! 😁👍🏻

As a very long time BMW rider. My favorite BMW of all time is my HP2 Sport. I have owned S1000RRs and now the M1000RR. Tested Ducs and KTms but they feel aggressive when nothing is really happening. A short "easy" stint and I was fatigued like I spent all day at the track. The BMWs are easy and smooth and then when you want to go bananas, they are bananas! I've been waiting for the bike like this! Max non-detuned power with easily available race exhaust and tune options, max electronic gizmos with ability to switch off wheelie control, minimum weight, "Ducati like" carbon and milled parts and all that in a comfortable package that can be used for say 4 day ~1000-mile trips with minimum luggage aimed at moving at descent pace through some incredible twisty roads without having to stop for gas all the time, not feeling beat up by the wind or aggressive riding position, or having to put on and shed merino wool layers incessantly due to large ambient temperature swings between mountains and the coast. Carbon wheels from the manufacturer is just icing on the cake. Only with all that I am ready to buy "the boring sounding inline 4" again after multiple V4s and V-twins.

After many sports and naked ICEs, I currently ride a Livewire One, 0-60mph in three seconds. But the truth is the biggest, most powerful bikes are not the ones we ride fastest. I found over the years that the best-handling 600-700cc bikes are the sweet spot for me (Triumph triples, CBR 600rr; etc.). Current HP figures only make sense on the track in most countries. Certainly in the Paris region, there would be no where for miles I could exploit more than 30% of that beast.

I had the '15 XR and the '22 model. I liked the '22 but it felt like they were trying to make a road exclusive version of the GS (I'm very aware that 99.9% of GS owners never go offroad, mind); in contrast the '15 felt like they were making a slightly more comfortable RR. The '22 felt slow, much slower than I remember the '15 being, there was almost no power in the low RPM where the old model would pretty much power wheelie any time you flicked the throttle. Love that they put the shift cam in the M1000XR, hopefully it makes it to the base model. I'd be interested in a review of the base M1000XR (non competition spec), I wonder if maybe the extra weigh of the non-carbon accesories might make the bike a bit liveable.

I just looked at the prices also on the Motorrad site. Specced up it was 29k lol. My 2022 XR fully loaded probably valued just now around 12k if I am lucky. 17k to change lol. Strange isn't it ?? first thing I do when I get on my S1000XR is make sure it is in Dynamic Pro with everything off, and for me that is what interests me in this M1000XR , plus some extra punch to make it more exciting, the S1000XR never feels scary to me honestly, I scoffed at 28k tho......because the base model at 23k looks crap compared to my Gen1 in White/Blue M Sport colours honestly. Think I will wait for the first of the second hand ones to trickle into the market.

Enjoy your take on it Chris, very entertaining. Reckon you just as well get an S1000rr and get some wind/weather protection.

I just watched your, BMW R 1300 GS review and you said you got the demo from Vines Motorrad Guildford, I'm off there tomorrow for their 2024 launch to see their F 750 GS but mainly for their new F 800 GS and F 900 R. Vines are fantastic, I have an A2 licence and still puddle around with my Yamaha MT-125.

Interesting. Years ago the Baron proclaimed the then S1000R was a giz machine, and so it was. Move forward 6 years and an extra roughly 40 hp and seems as sexy as a test tube. Has BMW lost some fun in the formula?

That 17" front wheel just looks daft! I'll take the power, although I'd likely never need it!

you believe it should have had 19" instead of 17" ?

No hard luggage is a dealbreaker for me for that style bike. Not that I can afford one.

The problem is probably the same as o. The s1000xr. There is a very real disconnect from the front end of the bike. Its very hard to trust the bike because it is doing things it should not be able to do in the position your in

All bikes on stilts are like that, they should be limited to 125hp IMO. Dangerous bikes that high hanging to other lanes in the corners even when they are 1m from the centre line.
