Correct! I was lead to believe the magic RAM Reset on my 645Ci would "un-jam" my camshaft adaptations that were out of whack. The RAM reset didn't fix it at all. Turns out the inlet and exhaust camshaft sensors were swapped. 😅

I find clearing adaptations helps in diagnosing things. It is very much worth mentioning that it can make your car initially run worse, especially if there is something a bit wrong like a small vac leak or out of spec fuel pressure - making any improvement that occurs purely a placebo; the adaptation returns to its pre-reset state of hiding the problem. Long term fuel consumption (taking into account different trip habits) is what I keep an eye on Almost gave a thumbs down for not mentioning E34 once in this video (everyone always forgets the 5ers) ... but the simple yet comprehensive explanations redeemed you

Hi Timm - I have a 2008 BMW E64 with only 59,000 miles. I have the jerky gear shifts from 2-1. I seen your information on Meeknet about how to reset the transmission adaptions on the E64. I do have a scanner that will allow me to process the adaption reset but was wondering if you had to follow the relearn procedure after completing your reset? Or did you just drive it as normal...I'm just not sure I can follow the 45 min BMW relearn process...sounds rather complicated. What was your symptoms after the reset...jerky shifts that cleared up after a few drives and then smoothed out? Thanks much for your feedback!

I just drove mine as normal afterwards, the real fix is fluid, filter and bridge-seal replacement

In the case of doing a reset on the m70, do you need to go through the throttle body synchronization procedure after the reset?
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
2 жыл бұрын
It will lose the throttle synchronisation, but the initial synchronization is done as the key is turned to position 2 and I am not sure how much faith I put in the 'drive at 5000 rpm for a while' procedure, it quickly learns without that.

hi, I have a question for you, I have a 1996 BMW E39 520i, M52B20 single VANOS engine and I have a really bad exhaust smell. I don't have any errors on INPA and I am not really sure what to check. I have some photos of the analog values, is there any way I could send them to you and maybe talk a bit more in depth about this issue? many thanks!

@@radu2054 Your fuel/air mixture is way too rich at idle, and too lean when cruising. So, next plan would be to check the fuel pressure - you have a fuel pressure regulator which needs a vacuum input from the manifold - my guess is that it is leaking raw fuel into the manifold (they do that when the diaphragm splits). Locate it and see if that is the problem

Since the introduction of the E10 fuel, my mpg has probably dropped by 10-15 %...... Will my car have "adapted".... Or will a "magic reset" force it to start from scratch and possibly improve my mpg figures?

Hello Dave, Ethanol has a lower energy density so you will get worse consumption. Try and use E5 and 99 Octane
