Some or your tips really helped me get that mother off of there,without cracking it.I counted the bolts 3 times,13 bolts,still missed that one in the far back bottom,but did get it out.I cut away the insulation a bit and rubber,just a bit,to get my ratchet farther over aligned with bolthead.Those plug tubes are what holds it up,harder to pull it out.I left the plugs in,no reason to remove them.Taking the oil fill cap off helps alot to use 2 fingers to pull cover up.I didn't have a pry bar,so carefully used 2 flathead screwdrivers under the top edge,and slightly farther down,to first get it popped up,the old gasket popped out right away.Make sure you get the wires out of the way,All of them.I pulled the 3 harnesses up and away from the DME box,to move the hose out of the way.Mmain obstacle was the tube that runs back down by the lower recessed bolt in back.That tube that's rippled seemed to be in the way of my ratchet,aligning straight to break that last bolt free.After that it pulled up easy,I reached in to remove the spark plug tubes.Yo6.need to take screws out of coolant reservoir and also take out the air filter box,lay the reservoir on its side in that space.Also remove the rear rubber gasket for hood,and the rear filter ducts,I thought I didn't need to,but alas,yes much easier.I popped the square black plastic wire tray off the valve cover,played it back over the top of manifold,out of the way.I did remove both cam position sensors,just out of the way more.It seems the eccentric shaft position sensor was fried anyway,and it was brittle on the top connector,so I broke the top round part off with pliers.I was replacing the eccentric shast sensor anyway, that's the whole mission.Clean up your valve cover well,especially around the top grommet holes,etc,and the inner gasket groove.Be careful to not get dust particles inside the rockers etc.Use clean rags to cover it.Be careful remov7ng torx screws for the eccentric shaft sensor.Only loosen each one,then use finger to slowly unscrew each on.Dont drop them into the inside,or the torx bit head.I can't emphasize that strong enough.Keep your tools away from the open rocker assembly,on a nearby wheeled cart,or on flat rags away from that open assembly. Take all ypur grommets out of valve cover,after you pull it off the engine.They are brittle, and pieces will fall in.If you do get dust debri into that assembly on the oil laying their,pick it out with needle nose pliers,and wipe edge of the rocker valve head assembly clean,gently scrape dried gasket rubber off the edge,so it's shiny,flat clean.Place new top grommets into valve cover,and the 2 grommets for the snap in bmw plastic coil pack covers,use a flathead screwdriver to squeeze those 2 grommets into the holes.Its dufficult,but not impossible.Place your spark plug tubes back into the rocker head assembly,twisting slightly, and make them straight.You can use silicone grease on the tops of the tubes if you choose.

.put the eccentric shaft sensor NEW gasket on over the sensor sticking through the cover.Bolt down all bolts,it says use a torque wrench at 7 Newton meters,but I think just cranking it down fairly hard is also ok.Some suggest using RTV around the round grommets.I think RTV is better used around the new eccentric shaft sensors rubber,and underneath it contacting the valve cover myself.Iwould dab small amounts along the hood runner gasket when replacing it,the wire harness rubber into the DME box,and anywhete that seeks iffy,regarding moisture penetrating,like the air cleaner duct ovals,the bottom of the DME box before replacing torx screws,and a dab onto the metal hose clip,under and over each clip.It also wouldn't hurt to seal the air filter cover box,connections of tubing,and a dab on all those screws,before toghtening.Its probably better tan using locktight red/bl,to hold and seal the screws.My opinion

Nice video! I’m getting a 2A5A error code Valvetronic , Eccentric shaft sensor 2: Guide , with a high idle and high cold start . Would this be the cause my sensors going out ??

not sure what vehicle you have or what other codes or engine condition, best bet is find someone with bmw diagnostic soft ware, run a diagnostic snd calculate a repair plan

I have a 2008 550i N62 motor , engines in good condition but I do need to replace the valve covers leaking on the driver side a bit , but I just recently been gettin the valvetronic Eccentric codes . So I was thinking if it’s that sensor. I’m going to take it in to my guy this week and have him run a diagnostic on it .

perfect, if doing the valve cover, i would do the sensor , that code points to a bad sensor, might not solve the high idle but it should clear the code if all wiring is good,,, hopefully he will do a smoke test before and after resealing cover to check for all leaks,,, leaks could effect idle speed and definitely the fuel mixture, once fixed these motors run great!

are you keeping it, does the other cover need replacement? theyre expensive, like $270 each from fcp with lifetime warrenty… if doing the other cover, i would replace it if keeping it…

valvetronic shaft sensor error, either guide or reference, if you get both the system goes to reduced power and sets at maximum lift
