Everything was exactly as shown and almost tool free. For my x1, I didn't have enough wire behind the connector and when I lightly pulled it out, it unplugged. Replacing the button cap is straightforward as shown, but there wasn't enough length in the wire behind to allow me to hold it while reinserting the plugs together. So if this happens to you, the easiest method from here is to remove the AC vent to the right of the start stop button. it goes all the way across the front of the dash, but it is only held on by clips. Use the widest flat plastic interior tool (get one if you don't have one - they are cheap at amazon) and lightly pry open the vent from the right passenger side to the left where the ac vents are. Be careful removing it because there is a hazard light wire connected to that AC vent. You should have enough to let it hang. The open vent now has enough opening for you to fit your hand behind where the start stop wire is and hold it centered when connecting the start stop button module to the back of the plug wire. TEST IT WHILE EVERYTHING IS STILL OPEN to make sure it works before snapping everything back in place. I started with the top left AC vent clip that fits into an obvious connector and then worked my way down. The AC portion should take only about 3-4 minutes of an extra step, but after trying for hours with different tools to try and hold the wire while plugging it, removing the AC vent was the right move and will save you a bunch of time and prevent you from damaging the wire ribbon in the process. All in all, I'm super happy with the result and the effort is well worth it.
