I had never met her, I had seen her on the Top Gear programme and to find out that she had been taken from us at such a young age was a body blow. It's not about being a woman, it's not about being competitive, queen of the ring, famous .......... or crazy .... or whatever. She was one genuine lovely person. And as that, we will keep her in our hearts.

The fact that she remains the only woman to win the N24 (twice!), and was the first to enter it, the first female Ring Taxi driver... she was, and remains, a feminist icon. She shattered the glass ceiling and was the reason why many of today's female racing drivers got into the sport.
@LupusAries
3 жыл бұрын
@@richardharrold9736 Can you keep the ideology out of it? We appreciate a human being here, and as El Shuwix has shown, one that transcends the mere identity stickers certain ideologies throw on them just to gain some glory of them. (As shown by you using all the buzzwords to gain brownie points, but which show that you know nothing..........like Glass Ceiling, which glass Ceiling to shatter? Like Michele Mouton and Claudia Hürtgen did not exist or what? How many feminists, especially of the third and fourth wave academic feminists, do even know her?) She was, damn almost wrote is :( , a great racing driver. Not just a great female racing driver, but a great racing driver, period, of any sex. She was also one of the great TV presenters, being more honest, down-to-earth and genuinely funny than most. She felt more real than any others. But most importantly, as was shown by the many stories told by all the people of all walks of life about her, she was a great person. My heart is with Klaus and all her family and friends, who are poorer for their loss. Still feels unreal that she's gone, that she's not going to come back with some funny or snarky comment about some car or vehicle. Right now she's in a better place and if she was here, Roland, she'd probably grab us both by the neck and knock our heads together for fighting at her memorial. ;) And she'd be right, this is a memorial, a place to remember a person and their life, this is not the place for political fights.
@richardharrold9736
3 жыл бұрын
@@LupusAries this isn't about ideology. Yes, Mouton came close to winning the WRC and set a record on Pikes Peak which stood for many years, and I admire her greatly for that, but Schmitz has a longer and arguably even more remarkable record of success spanning over twenty years. Via her TV appearances, she inspired a hell of a lot of people, particularly girls, to go racing.
@LupusAries
3 жыл бұрын
@@richardharrold9736 If it isn't about Ideology, then why bring it up? And compound that by using the exact buzzwords, wether fitting or not? Honest question. As for Mouton, "came close to winning the WRC" is just underselling it, as you needed multiple rally wins for and mind you that was in Group B.....against Walter Röhrl, Hannu Mikkula and a host of other Rally Legends. You could also make a case for Claudia Hürtgen, who won the DTC Championship twice in a row 2003 and 2004. [Remark: Now don't take what's going to follow as a personal attack on you, it is not intended as such. It is intended as a refutation of the feminist claims on Sabine Schmitz that have been made since she died.] Outside racing fans, few people really know about these great ladies, especially the insulated, weltfremde, Ivory tower inhabitants that make up the majority of the third and fourth wave of the aforementioned ideology. A lot of them would hate her too for promoting those horribly dirty contraptions called cars that destroy the enviroment. * Sabine has had a favourable impact for both young women and men getting in motorsport, wether that is in line with any ideology or not. We have never heard her speak in favour or disfavour of any ideology, and since she died a lot of cases for her being feminist have been made. A movement that before her death seemed to care not one whit*, but suddenly she's a feminist icon.....trying to shore up an ideology by siphoning the glory of that person. *As evidenced, by The Guardian the famous feminist/"progressive"/ mouthpiece's reaction to her inclusion for Top Gear moderator lineup. "I am about as likely to watch Top Gear as I am to weave my bikini line into an ornamental dreamcatcher. So while I normally greet the news that another woman has been allowed to crawl into television’s mainstream schedule with cheer, yesterday’s announcement that Top Gear has finally added Sabine Schmitz to its presenting line-up left me colder than a vanadium crankshaft on a frozen February morning. Not because I think diversity on television isn’t a good idea - it’s the absolute minimum we should expect from any institution - but because I think Top Gear is fetid slurry. Top Gear fetishises the totally unnecessary consumption of fossil fuels in the name of sport, entertainment and feeling better about your premature ejaculation disorder; it normalises dangerously fast driving; it contributes to the hunger for more and more cars that we neither need nor can sustain; it treats the sheer act of moving a machine as if it’s a display of heroic bravery and skill; and it paid Jeremy Clarkson’s salary for over 25 years. In this context, disliking Top Gear because it doesn’t include enough women is a bit like hating Trident because those submarines simply don’t have enough room for your jumpers - it rather misses the point. ...... But back to the faded, bootcut denim midlife moment that is modern Top Gear. “We really do have a bit of everything for everyone,” said Chris Evans, in his line-up announcement yesterday. [...] [.....]there’s the female-faced millionaire and founder of the BMW “ring taxi”, Sabine Schmitz; [.....] ...." Source: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/12/top-gear-loathe-thee-sabine-schmitz Note the "female-faced", seriously? Female-faced, as if she's wearing a mask and is not a real female? Trying to rob her of her femininity, because she doesn't agree with Nell Frizzell, High priest of Feminism?** Actions speak louder than words. Let's celebrate a great person for who she was, and not by attributing her greatness to a movement that either hated her or at best saw her as nothing more than a tool. **A bit of sarcastic hyperbole to shine a light on how those people view themselves, as the moral Leaders of the movement, who like religious leaders are held infallible and create the dogmas of the movement, despite being the least helpful to the stated goals of the movement of all members.

@@LupusAries Schmitz is far more of a household name to people who don't follow racing than Mouton, never mind Hürtgen. You can't quantify the impact she had on inspiring girls who were only watching Top Gear because their father/brother(s) wanted to, who suddenly realised that this world of cars and motorsport was something they could do too. Just because the none-more-woke eco-green-wash Grauniad couldn't find it in them to give her anything but the most grudging praise doesn't negate her importance in inspiring girls one bit.

Great video and such a talented driver who is sadly missed. I was fortunate to have a ride with Sabine in the M5 ring taxi on one of my first trips, she drove quickly but effortlessly, and me and friends had a great time in the car with her… ! ^^^^ in fact it’s my in footage used near the end of the video… you can hear how good the lap was for me & friends, a fantastic experience & memory :) Very humbled to have found its been used in this video of her.
