Hi there, I’m not fully familiar with your setup so all I can provide you is a generic advice based on the things I learned from the installs I’ve done. 1) Try programming the steering wheel buttons within the settings menu of the headunit. 2) If #1 fails, the sequence by which you connect the parts are important. Connect the parts starting from the headunit side first. This video provides an explanation why: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yap5mJyms3qCkoI 3) If #2 didn’t work, try contacting the seller and explain the problem. They might have given you a defective product. You don’t want to be doing something that might void your warranty. 4) If all else fail, then watch this video (kzitem.info/news/bejne/r5h_uK16gKmlnWU) as this is a good explanation of how to use Key1/Key2 wires from the headunit and the SWC wires. Essentially, this video says you need to ground one of the SWC wire, then connect the second one to Key1. Then try reprogramming the keys as per step #2 above. I hope this is helpful and good luck! Yes, fit and finish on this one is really good. It’s a good upgrade especially for an old car like mine. I bought the headunit from AliExpress. The link to their online store is in the description box of this video (Headunit Style #1). Everything I needed to install this on my car is in the box (except for the USB CarPlay dongle which I purchased separately). And as you said, since your stereo is the DSP-model, you will have to adjust the wiring which I don’t have experience doing myself so I’m afraid I can’t help you in that regard. But you can check out this other video (if you haven’t seen it already) which goes through the installation process for DSP stereo on the X5: kzitem.info/news/bejne/06eEyHapp6SolZg Good luck if you choose to go ahead with your project. It will definitely be interesting. Just DIY it man! 👍

There are a lot of headunit options out there but if you don’t mind spending extra $ on something with a built-in CarPlay/Android Auto support, that will be ideal. @@AutosNGizmos thanks for replying. I'm replacing an old android 4.0 unit with a new android 10.0 unit in my e53. Do you know if the newer units can detect reverse off the canbus for reverse camera? My old unit has a trigger wire connected to reverse lights but I think the new one I'm about to install can detect reverse via the canbus. The canbus on the new unit has more wires than the old one which is from 2016.
@AutosNGizmos
Жыл бұрын
@@nialrule Hi Nial, I won’t be surprised if the new Android headunits for the E53 have better integration with reverse camera, especially if the canbus decoders are pre-wired into the harness. If they are not pre-wired, by trial-and-error, you can use a multi-meter to figure out which canbus decoder wire is for the reverse camera (if it has one). So be sure to check with the seller first if their system supports automatic reverse camera trigger. While in the topic of reverse camera, be sure to check out my other video where I talk about how to wire a reverse camera into an Android headunit system. Hi Emmylou, the products featured in this video are complete system replacements specifically made for E53s. Meaning you don’t need to buy a special “facia” or frame to cover up any holes or gaps. It should also include a wiring harness and canbus decoder for sound output and steering wheel control. You might need extra wiring harness if your car has a special type of audio system. Regardless, you need to confirm directly with the seller if the product is compatible with your specific car. Please note I am not affiliated with the seller and the information I provide here are all based on my personal experience and research.

Hi J, when I was doing my research on E53 oem headunits and working with Android headunit suppliers back then, they would ask me if the oem headunit has “DSP” printed on the stereo itself (fyi mine doesnt). It seems like for those types, you need to hook up a special harness in the boot back to the Android unit. I’m not sure if this applies to your family member’s E53…

Hi, my unit arrived today. Wi-fi antenna is different then yours. It’s like a flat stick with double Sided tape. And also a separate cable with SIM card slot. Where do I stick the wi-fi antenna and what do I do with SIM card cable.
@AutosNGizmos
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Amit, I’m not too sure why you have a different wifi antenna - perhaps that’s what’s available for the model you picked. If it is in fact the wifi antenna, first thing I’d do is ask the supplier for suggestion where to install it. But if I remember correctly, there is a flat surface just above the main dashboard cavity and this looks like a good spot for that. But its better to ask the supplier to confirm. With regards to the SIM card cable, having a dedicated SIM card for your headunit means your headunit is always connected to the internet without using a hotspot connection back to your phone. If you want this “always connected” option, you can route the end of that cable to the ashtray so you can install/replace the SIM card when required. In my case, I don’t need a dedicated internet connection on my headunit which is why I didn’t buy this extra option. If I do need an internet connection (for example, I want to play music using the Spotify app installed on the headunit), I just create a hotspot connection using my phone’s cellular network and connect the headunit’s wifi to this hotspot. It’s a bit troublesome but I’m not going to pay extra $ for something I can get for free using hotspot. And since I have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available, I don’t see the need for a separate SIM card. I hope this helps.

JustDiyItMan thanks for your prompt reply. Apparently sellers in China and Hong Kong are away for some annual festival. The screw on bit is same as yours but this wifi antenna have about a meter long cable. Not sure if I can stick it behind the unit somewhere or on a windshield. Any suggestions 🤔🤔🤔
@AutosNGizmos
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Amit, If you intend to connect this headunit mainly to a Wifi source outside the car (for example, your home or public wifi), then it make sense to attach the wifi antenna to a less conspicuous area of the windshield so you get a good reception. But if you are only going to connect the headunit mainly to your phone’s internet hotspot while you are driving, then you will be better off to hide the antenna inside the dashboard cavity. Or better yet, request the supplier if you can swap your wifi antenna similar to mine if possible.

Hi Gokhan, you need to use the appropriate wiring harness that connects the BMW Quadlock connector to the ISO inputs on the back of the headunit for the specific model of your car. Normally these android-based headunit will go into standby mode if you turn the key into the Off position. If your headunit is not going into standby mode, its possible it is not getting the signal that the ignition is Off because the wiring harness is not compatible with your car. Did you get the wiring harness from the supplier of the headunit or did you source somewhere else yourself?

Hi can you help me I’ve installed my radio but I’m not getting any sound from the speakers I’ve followed your set up set by step but no sound
@AutosNGizmos
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shaquille, assuming that your radio was working prior to the installation of your new android headunit, I can only guess two possible issues: - the fakra-ISO adpater is defective - does it have two fakra plugs on one end like mine and if so, have you tried connect one at a time and you got the same problem? - if your existing BMW radio has the DSP button or you have an amplifier in the boot of the car, you might need some extra wiring. If you have an extra speaker (With RCA plug) lying around, try connecting it directly to the speaker-out jacks available in the headunit. This method will at least test if there is sound coming out of the headunit.
@AutosNGizmos
3 жыл бұрын
Also to add to this, there is a Canbus adapter that some of these headunit suppliers have for those that have built-in DSP on their OEM stereos. Make sure to check with the suppliers directly if there are any accessories you need to purchase with the headunit for your car. But when you chek the voltage at the in of the remote on in the amp it show you just 9 volt tha it is not enough. so I found an acc cable in the back and conect it at the remote on of the amp and after that there is not problem any more. Amit Nandal I didn’t buy a reverse camera from the same supplier as I already have an existing after-market camera which I connected to this new unit and it worked. And besides, all cameras operate the same way - it has a video jack, and a power wire. Where they differ will be the quality of the video in terms of resolution and visibility at night. Important thing with reverse camera is that you connect it to the correct input leads on the headunit.
