Riding bikes with young kids sometimes doesn’t go as you'd expected, and a change of plan is needed - today we went to ride motocross at Lee Dunham Racing (LDR) but thanks to the rain the track was too wet for him to cope with so we headed off to Bristol BMX track with his friend Ethan - thanks to Harleys dad being on the ball packing the van this morning he loaded two pedals bikes as well as his motocross bikes so both boys got to ride round together!
Harley is riding a Redline Micro mini 18inch wheel race BMX - with its super skinny wheels and being so light in weight this bike is much easier to ride around the track on than a conventional kids bike.
Ethan is riding Harley’s Prevelo Zulu Two Heir (we imported from America but you can get hold of these through Phoenix cycle works now!!) - this bike has chunkier tyres, front suspension and is generally a heavier (but more robust) bike - it’s designed for MTB trails and is an awesome bike though much harder for kids to ride around a BMX track on than a race BMX - so although it may seem that Harley zooms past Ethan in some clips… if they switched bikes the person doing the zooming would have switched too.
Parents: if your kids struggling to get round a track, check if it’s their bike holding them back… most tracks will hire a bike for a few quid for them to try out… so if they’re keen, get in touch with your local track and give it a go!!!
