I am starting my own 4-door conversion on my M818 right now. I have to tell you that out of the few 4-door trucks I've seen, yours is BY far the most awesome & best build!! My truck currently has: 1). 12' bed from a Deuce that's been cut down to 9' 2). 16.00R20 Michelin XZLs on the MRAP double beadlocks 3). Removable factory hard top Some if the changes I'm making to it are: - obviously the 4-door conversion (I have the cab used in "Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". The one that Harrison Ford fell backwards into while trying to get away from the Russians, in the Area 51 storage hangar!!) - 3" thick bulletproof windshield that will hold up even if 3 x .50BMG Armor-piercing rounds are fired in the exact same spot! - building a new hardtop for it out of rolled & bent 1" DOM tubing that will reduce road noise significantly, and insulate the cab - installing an aftermarket Heater/AC - installing airbags in the suspension seats f&r - installing motorhome or Peterbuilt captains suspension seats in front - installing either 2 motorhome/Peterbuilt suspension seats, or a full width bench seat on suspension seat system. Air bags either way - fabricating custom flatbed with headache rack • will have recessed pockets for me to park my 6x6 Rockcrawler in to lower total height - fabricating roofrack attached to the headache rack, w/50" LED lightbar - will have bumper attachment for pulling a camper trailer It will be a beast when completed! I'm going to be stealing a few design ideas from your build! Keep up the good work! - MK

I'm thinking about using this same concept on an m923a2 model kit I have. Purchasing another m923a2 and using the nain cab as the rear doors. Nice truck by the way👍

My advice on both the big boy 16R20's and the 14R20's: Its all about taking off the Central Tire Inflation System and the counter weights on those wheels, make it old school like a regular tire, just fill them up with air when needed. Secondly, and just as important, before you drive the truck, make sure ALL tires are exactly the same tire pressure (you can use the onboard air system to fill the tires with an air hose), I typically run about 55lbs of pressure in all tires. If your tires are in good shape, then you can run your truck at 65-70mph smoothly.

how did you make it go that fast? the none customized ones get up to about 58-60 on the highway.

+Dylan Snyder ----Hey Dylan, thanks for the reply. Here is some more info regarding top speeds: Not every stock 5 ton is the same. The older ones (800 series) are standard transmission and multi fuel engines. Even some of the newer ones (900 series) come with dually's in the rear and smaller tires then other 5 tons you can get with stock super singles. When you say "non-customized" you have to be specific about the exact truck and how it came to you in it's stock form from the military. Not all stock (non-customized) trucks have the same top speed. You get those top speeds that are at or near 70mph ONLY with a 900 series 5 ton and 16R20 tires, all other 5 tons in the 800 and 900 series will have lower top speeds without 16R20's. Hope that helps.

Micah Marshall I was talking about the M923 with the bigger tires like the one in the video.Just wondering do you know how fast an M35a3 is with the bigger tires(i dont know the size)
@micahmarshall
9 жыл бұрын
The biggest tire you can fit on a stock M35a3 is the 14R20's (48in tall). That should get you going around 64mph topped out if I recall correctly when driving my last deuce and those tires.

The only thing i dont like about your truck is that its bobbed. The standard bed that comes with these is perfect. Bobbed.. Especially crew cab bobbed, looks disproportional and i dont understand why you would ruin the truck like that
@micahmarshall
8 жыл бұрын
+Bradley Goodrich A "bobbed" deuce or 5 ton means it has been converted to 4x4 with only two axles. Just a friendly FYI, you are using the word "bobbed" to refer to a shortened bed, which is an incorrect usage of that term. The truck in this video is not bobbed as it is still 6x6. The standard 14ft long bed is great, but very long. If the operator of the truck isnt going to utilize all that bed for their purposes, then it adds a lot of functionality by shortening the bed. When you shorten it to 10ft or even 9ft, that extra 4-5ft of bed removed makes a lot of difference for being able to squeeze into tighter spaces when on the trail or simply just parking the beast. Everyone has their preferences, but there certainly is a legitimate reason to shorted a bed, even if it doesn't make sense to you personally.

+Micah Marshall very thoughtful response. And thank you for the heads up one last question, is how expensive was the crew cab conversion?
@micahmarshall
8 жыл бұрын
The cost is relevant to your situation. I have a shop and guys that work for me and still put 20K into the truck after buying it stock from the military to get it to look like it did in the pictures, not including my time and my own personal 200+ hours working on it.
@bradleygoodrich5569
8 жыл бұрын
+Micah Marshall interesting. 20k including the truck itself? Or thats what you put into it since you got it? Can you give me a rough estimate for us civilians without connections to a shop?
@micahmarshall
8 жыл бұрын
20k after I got the truck to my house. Lots of design work and welding. So far it has taken me a solid 6-8 months to build a crew cab 5 ton.
