playing in the game design sandbox is one of my favorite things to do, along with writing fiction. it puts me in the same place i was when drawing as a child. exploring all the different types of components that can be used, and trying to envision novel uses and mechanisms isn't just rewarding, it feels like the goal to me : )

@@calliwright5048 thats the thing, it turns into a puzzle or game as you make design decisions bc it becomes more difficult to make all the pieces fit. like when youre trying to accomplish something in a game but you feel like every decision you make is getting you further from where you need to be! are there any games about making games? :D

This is cool. Thank you. Would you consider making a video about reusing parts from other games or game systems for prototyping? Like 504, Piecepack / Infinite Board Game / Pyramid Arcade / Colour Chess + Lure / Green Box of Games / etc.. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work! :)

Thanks! Yes, some of my component "stash" comes from old games (thriftstore or games played so much the boxes fell apart), and then other games are "game systems" that anyone is encouraged to create games using the components (Gridopolis also comes to mind).

Great Job Calli. Thanks for the sources for some of the harder to find components. I often will bling up a game with custom components and will store the older components for future use. I have a box of many standard game parts just waiting for me to do something with. Also when I buy and expansion that fits in the core box, I keep the box for future use, possibly with stickers to get the idea of the game. Print and play also helps me with the how to... of components and card creation. Thanks again. :)

Thanks for this! I’m getting into designing board games for kids, trying to simplify some mechanics with fun kid themes. I homeschool three kids and have started designing with them in mind and they love all things game components.

Ah, yes, looks like they do have plastic ones. Nice! I couldn't find smaller wooden ones I should specify.
