Just bought my first fast boat (over 50), a 16' 1990 Hydrostream Verado with a 150 Pro Max. Took it out and had a similar blow out as I gunned it over a smooth stretch of river in downtown Pittsburgh. Just lifted a little too much and started twitching and came down a bit side ways. I thought I was going to flip but same thing happened as in this video, the boat just slowed quickly but not too quickly... and got 50 miles on 15 gallons of fuel even though I spent 80% of the time at about 30mph. So! Thanks for this video. I was on the fence about getting a new motor before I knew I'd only get 3.3mpg on a 16' 650lb hull which, at over $3 a gallon for 91 octane means I'm eating through $50 in fuel and oil in 1h45m of slow cruising not to mention I have to stop and refuel which wastes time. I was going to get a new 150hp Pro XS but they're 80lbs heavier than the old Pro Max (431 vs 350lbs). So, seeing blow out at 81, and having spent the afternoon doing math and using various speed calculators and cross referencing them with forum testimonials, I had figured first on my own premonition that if I instead got a new 115hp XS, I would see a top end of around 64-65. After plugging in on a few sites, I came up with a range or 57, 68 and 72 potentially. 65 is fast enough for a 16' boat. Now that I've seen this, I think I'll just save my money and get a 21' Liberator with a 300 when I can afford it. Much safer at high speeds. Now I will more likely hopefully live that long. Thanks again for posting this! Happy racing.

You should have got the150 hp! when you go to sale it, it would be more desirable to the buyer! People that buy those boats want the power no matter how dangerous it is!

"get a 21' Liberator with a 300 when I can afford it" That's where I'm at @63yo. I want to play but don't want to die for fun. Much better lake boat, did you get the Liberator yet? Seat time and setup is where I'm at. 91 Voyager XT/VMAX250 HPDI updated/restored. kzitem.info/news/bejne/t4tj1YGQo3V5d6w kzitem.info/news/bejne/roGm1Kt-sqGdqpg

This was because the engine shaft was raised slightly above the bottom, the propulsion force on the propeller defeated the gear unit control surface area. When this happens, start the propeller running right in the water, just like in my video. After that I made my bigger surface gearbox to the disk and the problem was removed.

Look at the Thumbnail and watch video close. That Merc is doing some fancy shit on that Transom. It's either an optical illusion. I'm not aware of Mercs new corrosion proof rubber bolts or the motor is about to fall off the boat. Always check your jack plate often. That connection takes serious abuse.

@@onni7324 wrong, his prop blew out. When that happens you lose lift, thrust and it sets the boat down in the water and then the boat typically hooks. He did an amazing job driving right there.... The chines on hull are basically in charge of steering at that point and way too much of the hull is in the water and you're along for a ride.....

Bad driving. The motor is level with the boat. No trim at all. The times that I had blowout was full trim and chop steering. He only has on hand on the wheel when he semi gets loose
