You must be a really good sailor to singlehand through there! I was freaking out a little in the fog section. Really enjoying your videos. I hope to sail up that way in the spring if the border is open. Perhaps I will run across you and Buttercup?
@AmandaOffGrid

Thank you :). To be honest, I actually didn't end up 'sailing'. The wind was coming strong across my bow up Discovery Passage and then once I turned off on Nodales Channel there was no wind for 2 days. When I was back on Johnstone Strait on the last day I, again, had the wind on my bow and I was pressed for time so had to book it. The fog was a bit scary and don't recommend doing it - ha ha!!

The fog is no joke! We did an overnight passage from Monterey to Morro Bay and it was so foggy we could barely see anything, we relied heavily on our GPS and Radar, we almost got hit by a power boat at the entrance to Morro bay. I would be so scared with out radar! Your so brave!
@AmandaOffGrid

hi! it is no joke, you're right! i had done it once before going from Lund to Pryce Channel, so, for whatever, reason i felt like i could do it. i stuck as close to the shore as i could get (although i couldn't see it) and stayed on the right hand side of the channel. i also thought that nobody would be as stupid as me to go out in it, so i likely wouldn't run into anyone ;). crossing the inlet i figured tugs have radar and big loud horns so i figure they would have seen me in advance and hopefully given me some warning. lots could have gone wrong, of course, but am so glad it didn't!

Hi Amanda, Great episode! I like your choice of music. What resources do you use for determining tides through narrows and rapids? Slack, ebb, and flood?
@AmandaOffGrid
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I use an app on my iPhone called AyeTides (I think it's about $10). I have used it for years and it's never failed me :). It's one of the only apps that gives you slack times for the 'lesser' rapids going North like Upper/Lower, Greene Point and Whirlpool rapids.

Hi Constanze! It depends on where you live. I know in Vancouver, where I am originally from, most marinas have 5 to 10 year wait lists for boats 28+ feet. You could buy a boat that already has moorage with it. Some marinas let you inherit the spot, but some do not. I wish you the best of luck with moving to a liveaboard lifestyle :)!!

@@AmandaOffGrid you are Definitely in demand. I’m a, can fix anything person who spent the last 24 years in nursing. Mostly ER, some flight, now a sailing bum and occasional truck driver.
