I've only just found your tutorials with 3ds max, and you know what? They're amazing! Of course I've subscribed. :)

We are waiting the continuation of the lesson! Splashes and foam using PFlow ! :)))

This is a tough one without plugins. I have another tutorial for creating waves while moving through water and a bit of foam. Realistic foam though is difficult. I'm going to experiment with camera projection.

It may be of some use. Ships have a known Metacentric centre, if I've spelt it right. This will be on the ships drawings . It a point that mixed with the displacement determine the rotation and movement of any ship.

damon meeking Hi Damon! Thank you for this. It’s probably time that I go back and remake this tutorial. It’s a bit rough.

Hello, i am making a simple simulation of boat. With the purpose that this simulation can give me best shape of a lower part of a boat in water and that boat has good aerodinamic. So i can make it in real life. Do you have any recomendation about how do i get to this shape without using programming. I am on a schedule, so i would be very happy for answers. Thank you very much!

I truely can't believe that this scene is model, looks like as a real and that is only true in my mind. How long time to spend while during render on the normaly pc, about one year maybe :p

why you didnt complete final completion of your tutorial.I didnt see the realistic boat while you render it with animation.

Tottaly awesome ,but why you didn't make another two planes at the starboard and port ?of the ship to control the rolling motion either automatically
@RagdollStudioLLC

Mostly because of problems with the lookat constraint restricting rotation. I could have made a more advanced rig to allow for that but it probably would have doubled the vid length.

Superb tut, is it difficult to add port and starboard motion to the auto conform rig ? I have 8 circular vessels I need to animate with port and starboard motion too, key framing then individually is a pain in the ass. I've tried many things but they all seem to break the rig, can't have a second look at constraint and linking the vessel to port and starboard makes no difference it just uses the fore and aft motions.

I spent a lot of time trying to achieve roll automatically but found I didn't find an elegant solution. Achieving pitch is the more difficult to get right so I just settled on keyframing the roll. I will give this another try once our current workload slows down a bit.

Is it possible to create the foam from the ship in 3ds max ?

probabably some particle system, don't know just guessing.

Going by the other tutorials these guys have done, I'd definitely say the particle system
@RagdollStudioLLC

Use particle flow with lock/bond and set the position and rotation forces to zero. This will ensure the particles bind to the surface of the water but still allow for movement over the surface. The foam will work from a distance but it's not an elegant solution for up close. I set up similar parameters in our boat wake tutorial.

Of course, I got this consistent problem of the ship flipping over.

Hi Orion, That's strange. Do you want to send me the file so I can look at it?

Hi m8. I'm wondering if it's something to do with the location of the axis. I'll look into it soon. If it don't work I'll let you have a butchers at it. Not sure how to send attachments on here though. :)

I like your tutorials very much, but I had such a hard time following for a while until I realized you were calling the front/pointy end/BOW the stern and you were calling the back/flat end/STERN the bow. REALLy threw me off!

haha. I do apologize for that and you're not the only one to catch it. You should have gotten a pop up during the video where I identified the error. This a pretty stupid error for me to have made being a former Navy man. I blame it on being a corpsman rather than a true sailor. I'm glad you like the other tutorials.
