I love seeing a real live-aboard boat built by and for practical people. HUGE storage spaces, safe/comfortable watchkeeping areas, cozy places to sleep while underway and convenient working spaces (because long-distance sailing is about much more than posing for a camera with a glass of wine on-deck). Thank you!

Very nice boat and I love the overall design and obvious quality of these boats. I am not sold on the dog house though, which so many others highlight. A deck saloon, as in for instance Sirius, Moody or also Alubat Ovni 37, eliminates the need of a dog house in bad weather, because you essentially can keep watch from the entire central accommodation. Meaning, you can do other stuff and still be on watch.

Thanks very much for the tour. Naturally, seems very similar to the Boreal 47.2. Looks very well designed and built, very seaworthy, safe and practical, in addition to being quite attractive. Very nice boat. Really good combination of good attributes. Well done Boreal! C'est bon! Det är bra! Oddly the other boat it reminds me of is Amel, which are a bit more stylish and modern and also very safe and practical passagemakers. The Boreal looks more like a home though, and that's a good thing. Amels also seem to be nearly double the price, so the Boreals seem like a good value. Just read in the Yachting World review of the 47.2 that the centerboard trunk is under the settee seat in the salon. This is brilliant.

You are welcome 😊 The 55 OC and 47.2 are quite similar, but of course the 55 is a little bit bigger and have the work bench section that the 47.2 is missing. Boréal and Amel probably have different customers. 😊 Guess that Boreal people like to keep the polishing to a minimum and like the raw aluminium look.

Hi. And thank you for such a great tour of your lovely yacht. I am currently searching for an aluminium lifting centreboard yacht and avidly looking at as many videos I can find on Boreal, Allures, Garcia, Alubat, KM and Enksail . Just found your channel and I have to say it so easy to watch as you guys are so relaxed infront of the camera and give such a great narration of what's in front of the camera. I'm really looking forward to catching up on all your travels over the next few weeks. Please may I ask is Bushpoint a 55 or a 55.2. I'm not familiar with the subtle differences. Once again many many thanks for such great KZitem time. Cheers and Fair Winds, Rich

@@bushpoint The larger Garcias have a better layout than the smaller. But the Boreal seems better overall.

@@LoanwordEggcorn One major advantage with the Garcias is that you can see out from the deck saloon since the windows are larger and the seats higher. That also opens up for the extra cabin under the main seating. But obviously you loose the dog house.

@@BilldalSWE Agree, and I think it's a lot better to have a large pilothouse salon (of the larger Garcias) than a short salon with a short doghouse over it. Presumably they could not fit a pilothouse salon on the smaller boat, though it should be possible.

Very well made videos and a joy to follow you. Can you pls comment on the dagger boards (when and how) and the leak in the anchor chain tube in the bow?
@bushpoint
Жыл бұрын
We have only one rudder in the middle and it’s not very deep and if you are on a hard tack it can loose it’s grip, then the dagger boards supports the rudder. The anchor chain is stored in the middle of the boat and its way to get there is through a tube that starts at the bow. That means, if there are breaking waves over the bow and the wind is on the nose, a little bit of water will be transported through this tube into the chain locker. We just put a bit of a cloth around the chain on its way in to the tube to prevent this. To have 100 m off 12 mm chain low in the middle of the boat is a big advantage, so to do this is well worth is.

A wonderful boat… really enjoying your channel 👌🏻 I am wondering what is on the starboard side of the doghouse ?? I find that the pilothouse is one of the most popular places to spend time whilst at sea in cold or inclement weather… perhaps Boreal would consider placing another seat to starboard in the doghouse…
@bushpoint
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you :-) On starboard there is just a shelf, and another seat there would "interfere" with the entrance to SB cabin. However, you could put a removable seat infront of the door, then you could sit three.

Excellent boat! I have been hoping to see a video presentation of the Boréal OC55 for quite a while now. You must have considered the Garcia 52 Exploration, too. What made you decide on the OC55? I am considering commissioning a build and the Garcia, Boréal, Allures, K&M, Enkhuizen are on my list.
@bushpoint
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To be honest we never looked closely at the others. Our previous boat was an Allures 45 and it was built, at least then, in the same factory as Garcia and the first Exploration 45 was in production (built for Jimmy Cornel) at the same time. Never been in a 52. At that time we thought that Boréal was to hardcore for us and then we wanted a larger cockpit than the Boréal offered at the time. After five years of sailing, we saw that Boréal had made the OC version and we had started to glance at a bigger boat. We had a look and fell for it! We are sure that all of them are good boats and will take you wherever you want to go. I have watched both this video and your tour of the 47.2 countless times. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I really love both of those boats! I am curious about your power consumption. When using all four refrigeration units, auto pilot, radar, etc. do you find the 1,100 watts of solar and wind generator to be adequate? Is the diesel generator and Hydro generator needed to keep up with demand? Are you running a lithium battery bank? Keep up the great videos! ⛵️👍
@bushpoint
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you like them. Yes we have lithium batteries 800 Ah, to be honest we only use two refrigerators and one freezer. When we sail, the hydro generator and solar keeps up with the consumption. We have never need to use the genset when under way (thus far). Our feeling is that the 1100 watts will be enough when at anchor in a sunny place :-) The wind generator however, we think is more an image thing, it need to be rather strong winds before it delivers something to write home about :-)

@@bushpoint Thanks for the practical feedback about electric energy use. Many sailboats now use more solar and no wind generator (and maybe no hydro generator). Solar has become more practical, particularly on catamarans with so much available solar area. And 1100 Watts seems like it should be enough for normal house loads with no air conditioning. Is there a watermaker? Clothes washing machine? Update: I see she has a small clothes washer, which is great. Makes sense that thrusters would be useful with the centerboard up.

Limited headroom throughout all the boat, in the stateroom forward, in the guest cabins, even the entrance to the doghouse is low enough to bump a women's head. On a 55 feet? Hate it. Also the layout is not cruiser friendly as the movement aft is a lot less aggressive I will always prefer the owners cabin aft. I'd hate it to sleep on passage with limited headroom and to squeeze myself into the bed. Not getting younger and I want to sail as long as possible. Clearly not my design.

@@bushpoint This boat doesn't fulfill the needs for bluewater cruising at all to me. The entrance to the doghouse was low enough that even a relatively small woman needs to take down her head, very obviously to see in the video. And the aft cabin doesn't have any sufficient headroom above the bed. If one likes to squeeze himself in or out of the bed with 60 or older... I'll say have a nice time. Other bluewater cruisers have a center cockpit, an aft cabin space that legitimates such name for calm sleep, an aft plattform that's good for getting crew on board in case of overboard emergency and not for being a perfect example to the movie "open water". Jumping overboard and forgetting the bathing ladder... And some more points.

@@andrebauer576 You sound like a broken watch repeating the same things. Funny when someone who's never been on the boat think he knows better than someone who's done 6000nm in one... This is not a "bluewater cruiser". It's a high latitude bluewater cruiser which have other priorities and which you obviously have no experience with. Why don't you provide a link of a 47ft aluminum or steel bluewater cruiser with a lift keel that has a decksaloon with "indoors" navigation possibilities, a center cockpit big enough to seat as many people around the table as there are berths on the boat , an aft cabin and a lazarette /aft lockers big enough for dive compressor, dive gear etc.?
