My granddad used to have a wood house on this island years ago before the government claimed all the houses there ilegal and demolished them all. There used to be like 100 houses on that island with woodstoves and everything my grandma used to make our own bread on the woodoven and our eletricity was power by our own generator, it was a small community,.. all destroyed by the government. It was called Ilha Deserta already but there were a lot of wood houses and people going on the weekends and holidays, everyone loved it to go spend the weekend just minutes away from Faro where they used to work and live during the week.. this is what corrupt governments do. Theres also two sides on that island, the one to the Ria Formosa and the one facing the open ocean. From what I see you been to the ocean side, but the one to the Ria Formosa on the opposite side is absolute quiet and heaven with no waves and noise. The other island you see with the light house is called ilha do farol (lighthouse island), then you have Culatra island and then Armona Island towards Olhao. And there are a lot more islands and spots where you can fish and catch, and plenty of beaches connected through between islands. Your best option to know Algarve and visit the best places is to get a boat.

Aw, man. That's too bad, what the government did to your grandparents' house. No, I did go to the Ria Formosa side of the island as well
