Here is Washington State, we currently have two EV's and looking at getting enough solar with battery backup to provide all our needs. Watching this EV RIB boat trip is inspiring.

personally i don't see electric small boats ever being popular with the technology at this level. 25-30 mile @ 20 knot range is just far too short, and this boat has a double battery set up? sure it might do more distance at 5 knots, but who buys a rib to go 5 knots? at that point i would rather just sail at least then you have some shelter and space onboard. I wonder how the price point compares to a standard petrol powered rib of the same size? Also, just for fun.... Electric price in the uk is 24.5p/kWh currently, so lets assume no losses from the charger, 24.5x126 (the size of the battery) = £30.87 to charge it up. 25-30 nm range, so price per mile is somewhere between £1.029-£1.23/mile A modern outboard powered rib of similar size will do anywhere between 0.8-1.2l/mile, marine fuel in the uk is currently between £1.72-1.98 (MDL Marina website) so cost to run a petrol rib/mile would be between £1.37-£2.37 depending where you fill up and the actual economy of the particular boat.

Wish I had the resources to do stuff like this. Great work. Thumbs up! Some foils that deploy on hydraulics under the hull could be really nice but I guess it's no longer a rib after that. Could be the eventual evolution of rib. rib foil.

Ahhh, I see... its one of those round Britain trips where you don't go round Britain.

This is very cool. I was amazed by the Electric Tug that is being used in Vancouver BC for ship assist in & out of port.

at 2 tones will it still float if the tubes deflate?
@tomredman

depends how many sections, but i doubt it would survive much, it looks like it has a very shallow V (most likely to make it plane more efficiently for greater range), and sits quite low in the water already

@@tomredman yeah i noticed that, thats why i asked. i remember watching an alfred montaner video and when they were discussing off shore ribs (gasoline ones) they said one should think of a rib as a normal boat but with a 'life jacket' on. And that the tube is just an extra layer of security i.e. the rib should still float if the tube were to deflate. but i suppose this ability does not apply to all ribs (please correct me if im wrong)

@@ltownandfriends4531 normally you would expect the rib to still float, but this one looks to be bearing a fair amount of weight on the tube already at rest. The tubes will be devided into sections, on this boat probably 5. If you only lost one section, it'd probably be fine. But in any kind of rougher weather I'm not sure I would want to find out! Especially seeing that it doesn't seem to have drains fitted in the transom.

It depends you can build in a lot of permanent buoyancy .. and you can have none inflatable pVC tubed ribs.. another feature used on RLNI ribs is they fit the cages with emergency inflating self righting bags.
