Most fuckups go to slow. One thing I don’t get is why the hell ppl don’t use lite jackets, but it must due to stupidity. Of all haulover clips I’ve seen I can’t remember one with any kind of floating device. But there are plenty of hot dog ppl floating araound.. Where I’m from we call ppl with fenders out while you’re on the way hot dog dealers.. Can be a rough translation but having fenders hanging outside while tote on the way is poor seamanship.

I remember in the late 80s, we were driving back after two weeks in Florida. To shut us up, my parents pulled over to a boat yard to let us blow off some steam and look at boats. My father said he wasn't going to buy anything, but I'm more certain than not that if our vehicle had a tow hitch, he would have gotten a boat that day, similar in size as one of these. The galley, the bedrooms, the living room. BUT we would have never used it and about two years later they bought a different house ... and houses hold their value better. They could not have afforded their house if they bought this boat. ;-)

That Intrepid with the kids on the bow ......I was like Good idea". Bad enough the captain hasn't a clue how to handle the throttle in this current with these waves, but kids without PFDs loose on the bow? At least he was smart enough to recognize he was unqualified to have the boat out today. Best he stays in the intracoastal until he gains some skills.

Goodbye Mr. Anderson Says the guy who has a hard time spelling. The boat I believe he’s referring to is more than capable enough for that inlet and yes; it would have ran smoother with more speed.
@MiamiLiving305
4 жыл бұрын
@Goodbye Mr. Anderson you have to give it some gas especially if your smaller to lift the bow a little cause at idel your bow will smash down into wave/current and you can take on water going to slow, plus the bouncing and whipping can be very rough. At least that is what I think Tim meant. But most people don't know Haulover smaller boats should stay on the edges where it's rough and turn out after the rocks. Even in my 30 Gamefish I wouldn't haul ass though their no matter how big my boat is especially looking like this.
@doclarsen4669
4 жыл бұрын
Goodbye Mr. Anderson yea you’re partially right. Driving 2 knots isn’t effective cause then you go up and down in the waves but if you give it a little gas you kind of get on top of the waves which is more comfy, safer and you get out quicker
@doclarsen4669
4 жыл бұрын
Goodbye Mr. Andersen yea of course, diving fast in “big” waves is scary, you just need to trust your boat and have guts. There’s also a difference in boats, a day cruiser can’t take waves as well as an open boat can. But my point is that it’s better to have a little speed (doesn’t need to be full throddle) but a little speed is necessary. Also, when u have passengers for example in the bow, your boat is a lot more unstable and jumps a lot more up and down (with small boats), but if you’re alone, use the powertrim and get the bow down, then with some speed you’ll basically be on top of the waves

Yup this is one of those truly "rough" days at the inlet us locals know about. It's the days that separates the mariners from the googans. The guy in a brand new Intrepid at 6:50 is either a googan or his wife was screaming at him to turn around. LOL. That boat would have been totally fine going through if the captain knew what he was doing.....Watching the clip of this boat again...I don't think he was very experienced. He was letting every wave crash over the bow. There was probably a foot of water rushing by their feet. If you know how to run the boat you can avoid stabbing the bow into every wave.

Lol im guessing slips inside haulover are priced accordingly to dealing with such a fked inlet. That or theres a major boat launch close by as well. Shit ton of people trailer boats in FL. Actually a major problem down there is truck and trailer theft after you safely launched your boat. People are coming back to the launches to find their truck and trailer missing.

@jhurley12

Roger French i think the boat length and hull shape has alot to do with it. I think the speed should match the hull length relative to the distance between wave crests. A shorter boat needs to slow down and traverse each wave because it fits inbetween wave crests. The longer ones can span the crests allowing for more speed, and a smoother ride is the result.

Let's play a new game. It's called "Counting cracks". After a boat returns from a good pummeling, like these people give their boats, you count the new cracks in your fiberglass hull! Reinforced fiberglass!!! If you only knew anything boats, you'd know fiberglass is very strong but shatters quite easily, so even though your boat is reinforced, doesn't mean it's BUILT FOR SMASHING DOWN ON WAVES!!! I'll never understand why this simple and very true concept, is not understood by most boaters.🥴😳👍🙏🙏🙏

This might be a long one ! Anyone else notice how well SOME of the smaller boats do ? And that most of the good performers don't have a tonne and a half of weight hanging off their sterns ? Yet to see any conditions that I wouldn't take on in a 18ft cabin with a single 130 on the back ! Some of the boats are that shallow at the bow they have to be trimmed until they are pointing at the sky and banging uncomfortably. Operaters skills suspect, they would become statistics in Australia where quite a few bar crossings involve timing gaps between breaking waves. And that boat that turned around should is big enough to circumnavigate countries ! Needs more depth in the bow, a bow rail with screens and a trip around Tasmania is on the cards !😎👍
