This was Meir Ariel, who was dubbed "the Israeli Bob Dylan", due to certain stylistic similarities. Some similarities - but, no copycat. You nailed it. In the end, family has been the most important thing. McCartney’s middle class/working class Irish ☘️ Liverpool roots grounded him. His mom was Irish Catholic and much of a Liverpool was so. Harrison and Lennon had Irish roots along with being British. James Paul McCartney lost his mom at 14. He has told stories of him helping out the elderly neighbors as a kid. He grew up with a respect for mother’s and women. Just look at his marriage to Linda, his kids, and his extended family in Liverpool. He never forgot his roots. Songs like Lady Madonna, Elenor Rigby, Let It Be (“Fiat”), Give Ireland Back To The Irish, She’s Leaving Home, Baby I’m Amazed,....they tell it all.

I always favored John. Just slightly more in his more introverted type of soul writing style when the Beatles were together. I knew Paul was more talented. No question about it. One musical master to another, and I'm sure McCarney would give similar praise to Dylan. But it's Dylan's recognition of McCartney's supremacy over MELODY that's the most telling, the one thing he wants to single out and get people to understand. You can fake, disguise, package, cheat, hide, or copy, but it's always the originality of melody, and the sweetest of melody that wins the day, that's the difference, and precisely what we don't hear from artists today over the gloss.

Recordings in studios and filming live shows, handling a family, housework at home, lawyers, accountants, friends and associates, dealing with the press for interviews, and finally performing after all that, with enthusiasm and charm. I was always in awe of Paul McCartney for his Melody writing skills. For me songwriting is all about melody and Lyrics. Some are talented in lyrics and some in melody. Though lyrics as important as melody, it is the melody that hooks listeners and is quite hard to find. It always felt like that Dylan writes songs starting from a lyrics and McCartney and writes numbers starting from a melody and with Lennon somewhere in between both of them. So naturally it is a bit of a compromise for lyrics for McCartney. I was at a Halloween shop 6 years ago on the Upper East Side of Manhattan close to where I live. A packed Halloween day full of last minute costume shoppers. I was on the long line going to the cash registers. The line was so long it stretched into the tall isles of trinkets and items for purchase. It was very noisy but through the noise I very faintly heard this pristine very melodic whistle coming from the older gentleman right in front of me on the queue. It was like a lightning bolt to my head. I knew that whistle. I had known it my entire life! It was so obvious to me that I knew this man. That whistle was just so undeniably familiar. Like a distant memory now brought to life. So I very discreetly snuck a peek to see if he was an uncle, family member or someone I had known from my childhood. I did know him!! It was Paul McCartney in the flesh! I froze. I turned to my then girlfriend now wife and pointed at Paul. She didn't care until I whispered in here ear, "that is McCartney". Her jaw dropped. Mind you, w and had met Lou Reed before. Yoko and Sean too at an event but here was McCartney. Mere inches from us, gently whistling to himself to pass the time in a Halloween store line! And I recognized the whistle. I thought of tapping him on the shoulder to thank him but opted not to draw attention. He would have hated that. I waited and took some secret candid pictures. Then as he was in the register I took another picture of him and his wife. She noticed and was non too happy at all. I felt bad but I needed to document it.

@@briancollins5117 All sorts. He's a fan of the Beatles who blamed Paul for the breakup. From then he basically did all he could to bring Paul down and promote his favorite Beatle- John. He's the interviewer behind Lennon Remembers. A book of an interview that served an unintended autobiography for John. Wenner was a terrible interviewer who questioned nothing John said and transcribed his words without nuance. John comes across different in tone in print to the audio. Furthermore the interview was at a time the Beatles were splitting up and John was using hard drugs. John refused permission for it to be published and later complained that he hadn't meant it and was the equivalent of yelling 'Ow' in pain, and that he'd not been allowed to change his mind. He broke off friendship with Wenner but died before it began being used as a source. Wenner has promoted the interview as the honest truth for decades and it is the foundation of all the anti-Paul biographies of the 80s and ever after. (The interview also dismisses the contributions of George, Ringo and George Martin, which is why there is often a theme of dismissing them in the same narrative) There are other instances but this is central to his anti Paul campaign. He is the editor of Rolling Stone magazine. When asked in his recent biography 'Sticky Fingers' , he justified his stance and biased reporting by saying that there's no such thing as objectivity. Indeed, he only started the magazine because he couldn't get his reviews published and wanted to promote his favorites. There are websites dedicated to criticizing terrible, biased Rolling Stone reviews.

@@hellsjamfleas I have been a Beatles AND huge Paul fan since January 1964. I always wondered why there was this "hate" against Paul. What baffles me is how a weasel like Wenner could get away with leading the charge for so long. There aren't enough expletives to describe this, and I'll spell it out, prick. Also why were others so easily swayed? Paul's true fans and those in the know have always been there. I read from a link on this chain how he along with John and Yoko conspired to manipulate the press, etc. in their favor. To blithely report that John was the ONLY viable member of the Beatles? I thought there were 4 members not 1! You get where I'm going here. And when I read comments here and elsewhere from those who drift John who I am sure are just jumping on some bandwagon, my blood boils. Kudos to Breathless for making a beautiful documentary about our hero.

It's great to hear Bob give his validation of both Lennon as a great singer and McCartney as a great musician and singer. We all know what great writers John and Paul were/are but not enough is said about how great they both were as singers. So it's great to hear Bob, the greatest lyricist ever, say that about them. Certainly all the Beatles admire Bob as well. Unique artists all. And I certainly think Lennon is the greatest rock singer of all. For drive, intensity, penetration, and melodic ability, John cannot be beat. Elvis has the better voice but for sheer intensity, the hallmark of Rock singing, John is the guy though Kurt Cobain also was an intense singer, and certainly up there with the best.

And Half Dome, El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks glowing in the full moonlight. Paul and Lynda's voice blend is magical and new on that LP. As was Paul's voice blend with John Lennon innovating a new Everly Brothers sound. I met my future wife about a month after that.
