Dylan never had a formal lesson nor did he ever learn how to read music. This sh*t comes straight from the heart.

@@foljs5858 - Well, he never quit playing anyway. Not entirely the same thing. But you should leave room for the possibility that he may have been a bit of a savant as well. Or the lessons from a previous life managed to transfer along with his subconscious into this reincarnation. I know most people don't like to hear it, and I understand why - but some folks are literally 'just born' knowing how to do something. How else to explain several well-documented cases in South America particularly in an isolated village where an injured person was brought to a healer who didn't even know how to read but performed major - and successful - surgery for the first time in his life? Very rare, true - but that's why it's so special.

One of my favorite moments in film. I recall having a slightly longer audio version through a bootleg I found somewhere.. used to think the lyrics went something like "...so hard to please oh how hard it is to please but you dont have to think or lean on where tomorrow will lead but how hard it is to please.."Hope someday a Don't Look Back reissue can include the full version of this scene!

He is indeed writing a song. You can't make out the words because they are 'dummy lyrics' - vocalisations to go with the music but he hasn't written the words yet! Compare with such as 'I'm Not There' or that 'rainy afternoon' clip in a hotel room where he's playing guitar. Magical.

Bob's piano playing is unbelievable ... with an amazing gospel percussive melody that is seductive! I wish someone knew what song this became - or if it became a song at all - or if perhaps it became several. I've heard everywhere from it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry to like a rolling stone (which seems more plausible), but I hear echos of she's your lover now or i'll keep it with mine - though the unintelligible lyrics are more in line with i'm not there. Apparently, in a documentary about the making of Don't Look Back with Neuwirth and Pennebaker, Bob told Pennebaker it was an example of a song being created? Here's what I hear (sort of) : kzitem.info/news/bejne/2o-qs6yPqax4p44m6s well here's a little lie but i do that job and okies in no rain too hard to please well the harder you lean but you don't have a dream but you lean on it tonight here with me but i don't ...

I guess asking the movie's director or Bob neubirth about this piece, could give us some answers. Personally I think this is him improvising, you can tell he is not singing real lyrics, just coming up with a melody. Who knows for sure. However its music to my ears from an artist who at that time was changing the times.

i stayed up all night trying ot figure this out after the first time i saw DLB. cool to see it had the same effect on other folks too. the chords are f#, b, and c# with a walking baseline...you can see him play it if you look closely enough. i would guess it's some sort of traditional gospel song, not sure of much else about it.

+Richard Limbert it very well could have been the first time Bob thought about this song. In this film Pennebaker cut this in the original film. Bob called up Pennebaker and said something along the lines of (referring to this clip) "hey man, I see you cut short the piano scene. Have you ever filmed someone creating a song before?" Pennebaker then realized he shouldn't have cut it after all. So Bob did admit pretty much to this being a song creation, and it very well might be the first time Like a Rolling Stone was thought up
